Bummer. Been there, done that. The only good thing about it for me was that it was covered by the warranty. It might be a real long shot, ok it is a real long shot, but you might ask your friendly neighborhood dodge dealer if they would consider doing the repair under a customer satisfaction type deal. Maybe they will cost share with your buddy on a 50/50 type deal. Also try calling the Dodge customer service number, I don't have it handy but I have used them before on one occasion when a dealership was giving me some grief and they made it right while I was on the phone with them. It could happen, maybe. This type of failure is a known defect and it has happened many times to others. If they won't cover it, have your buddy save his receipts, maybe someday dodge or cummins will make it right...
