I consulted with the guys at 4Wheel Parts here in Denver when they had their show last summer.
Are you sure 4 wheel hackers didn't try to upsell you the 315's and recommend "minor" trimming? After working for them for several years, I have found the only time their salesmen are giving accurate information is when their lips are SHUT, anything for a sale you know.
For stock suspension systems, the BFG A/Ts in LT285/75/16 is the way to go. Any larger and you will get some rubbing of the tire against the suspension parts when you turn hard. I've been running these since Oct. Need to watch your speed though as your speedometer will be off (around 10%) with the larger tire size. I found that when my speedometer said 55, I was actually going about 60 (according to my hand held GPS).
My speedo is off by 5 or 7 mph as well. progressively worse as the speed increases. 80 on the dash is 88 on the road
