Maybe I haven't searched enough yet, but I'm not sure if I can fit 315/70/17 tires under my 2004 3500 SRW with no lift. How about 325/60/18's? Only with 6" backspace rims???

I've been running 315/70 X 17 BFG ATs for 80K miles (almost 70K on the first set, with tread still left!)... on both stock alloy wheels and now on H2 wheels. With the stock wheels, there is minor rubbing on the lower suspension arm at full lock left and right. Nothing to worry about, just a polished spot on the arm. Off road, either side can be made to make contact with the back edge of the fender opening, again, nothing serious.

With the H2 wheels, no contact on the suspension arm but more contact with the fender off road, again, livable.

325/60/18 will not fit on the front without at least a 2" level kit, they will rub on the back of the front fender when you turn. I know this for a fact, check my signature. Hope that helps!

Thanks so much for the quick response. That is exactly what I was looking for - instead of a spec sheet - someone with actual experience. I'll double check the dimensions of a couple of different brands. I'm considering Mickey Thompson's, Nitto, and Pro Comp.

2006 2500 4x4 quad cab short bed, with Eagle 114 18x9. 5 wheels and nitto grapplers in 325/60/18, and my truck is not leveled or lifted, and it does not rub anywhere, I had Discount Tire mount one tire and wheel on front of vehicle before I purchased, just to see for myself. These tires are about 1. 5 inches taller and several inches wider than the stock tires, they do stick out about 1. 5 inches past wheel wells, and do make a slight hum on the road, but not anything severe as compared to agressive mud tires. I tow 11000 lb. dump trailer, and a Bobcat and they seem to be wearing well, and they have very good traction in the loose or muddy ground.

CLaVasseur,

Check out my readers rig gallery, I am running 325/65/18's on wheels with 6" backspacing and I only have rubbing while at full lock. The rubbing at full lock is on the control arms. I do no currently have a lift or leveling kit, and do not rub the fender wells.

All I can say is mine did rub, even after the level kit I had to do minor  bodywork to correct it. Maybe the Toyo,s???

JJPage,

Are your tires 33 or 35" tall? The 325/60R18's are 33's and the 325/65R18's are 35's.

I would think that a 33 inch tire on a 6" backspacing wheel like the EA114 would be fine with no lift, but if you're saying the 33" tire will rub, I may have to change my plans.

I am agonizing over this topic right now. I wanted the Pro Comp 305/70R17's (load range E) on stock wheels to save a little money as opposed to buying new wheels. Just realized that the Pro-Comps are directional and having a spare would only be good for one side of the truck. I want to work the spare into the rotation.

Now I'm left with a LT285/70R17 126S (Load range E) Toyo A/T - or the Nitto version - which is a little smaller than I wanted. So to get the tire I really want I have to go with an 18" wheel and I was considering the EA114.

I don't really want to drop the money on new wheels right now, but to get the tire I want, I may have to.

Spooled-up,

Mine are the 325/65/18's (35") and I am running them on the Eagle 114's, like I said the only rubbing I have is at full lock on the control arms. I do not have a lift YET, I am going to install a KORE system soon but not for rubbing issues only because I want one on this truck.

Is your truck a 4x4?

CLaVasseur said:
Yep, and I woulda just said "yep," except my reply wouldn't post unless it was 10 characters or more, so this is the regulation version. Yes, it is 4x4.

The reason I ask, I have a 2 wheel drive with 315/70 X 17 BFG ATs with the H2 wheels. I did install a 1. 5" lift on the front. It no longer rubs with the lift. Of course the stock 4x4's sit higher than the stock 2 bys from the factory, so I would think you would be ok. Here are some pics:

Here are some pictures of a truck we built. It has the 35 inch Toyo Open Country MT's on 17x8. 5" Centerlines with 6 inches of backspace. The lift is the KORE Race Series W/ Unlimited parts. 3 inches of lift, no rubbing anywhere even when fully compressed to bumpstops. It is a nice clean look and can be used on a truck with a 1 inch spacer over the spring. It is not what I recommend but have seen it work.

To Clear things up a little, the Toyo is a load range E 10 Ply. I believe it is the best tire on the market. It is much superior to the BFG. BFG has been known to cause a Death Wobble on a truck or two without any lift.

The Toyo is in stock here at DRC. I have access to as many as we need. 24 came in last week and 56 more are on order to be delivered this week. To say the least, I am in Toyo heaven. I have been waiting for over a year for a new set of MT's. We have the 35 and the 37 inch tire in stock now. I will post them on our website tomorrow. Specials

With a stock wheel, you will not have a rub issue on the fender but a slight rub on the control arms and possibly on the anti sway bar with the 37. Here are the pics,

Included in these wheels is the new Weld Wheel Industires "Method" in black that I just recieved from their Director of Marketing. I have been working with Weld to get a 6 inch backspaced wheel for the full sized Dodge HD for a year. This is the first Photo... ! Very exciting... . I will post a poll later about two other wheels they are trying to decied on. I offer the help of the TDR and now is our chance to pick a wheel.

Thanks,

Greg DRC

those wheels look pretty good greg. the welds look good, but id like to see a style like the commando beadlocks go into production. maybe with your special powdercoat color. that would be sick. the centerline bullets would look good in that powdercoat color to. hmmm, i might have to try that

The Commando Pro is a wheel that is on the list. I will post the poll next. Weld Racing will be influenced by what we ask for. They will be monitoring that thread and using it for marketing. As for powdercoating, I can get any wheel powdercoated for $60. Here is a sneak at the Commando Pro.

Spooled-up, my tires are 325/60/18-33", just went out and measured my backspacing, it is at 5. 5" from the back of the face to the bead, sooo... . maybe that 1/2" is why I rubbed. However I would like to believe any tire/wheel dealer wanting to sell you tires and wheels would mount one up and let you place it on the front of your truck to be sure.

JJPage,

Maybe it's the shape of the Toyo's that make them rub. If you have the A/T's, they look like they have a pretty "square" tread, meaning the sidewalls don't taper into the tread very much, especially with a 9. 5" wheel.

My problem is that I am ordering my setup mail-order. I'm getting the Eagle 18x9. 5 114's with Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ's in 325/60R18. I'm hoping they won't rub thinking that there are two guys in this thread that are running the 35" version with no fender rubbing and no lift. I guess I'll take the chance. If they don't fit, I'll sell them as I'm getting a very good deal on them.

What kind of trimming did you have to do on your fender?

Do you guys have pics of your trucks with the 325/60R18's??

Thanks.

I think you guys are on the right track with the "shape" of the tire. I'm mail ordering mine, too. That's why I wanted to get as much info ahead of time. I'm getting Mickey MTZ's, and I noticed on their web site that they give not only the tire diameter and width, but also the tread width. I figured that may give me a clue as to how the tire will sit under the fenders. If you look up specs on a few brands, it seems that the actual dimensions can vary quite a bit - even with the same published size. I think I'll stick with 315/70/17's, as that seems to be the "safest" for clearance with most of you on this thread. The pics really help, too.

Spooled-up, they rubbed only in a full turn (right/left), the outside of the tread just barely caught the fender, the very bottom of the fender lip in the back by the front door where it meets the inner fender. If you look at yours, you will notice it sticks out ever so slightly. Now for the fix,,, I know this should only be done to a chevy/gmc... but, I took two five pound hammers, set one against that little bump and used the other one to give it a couple of good whacks :--) , no more rub!

You are right, lots of different tire shapes claiming the same size, these Toyo's are 14" across the face, when I read the specs before purchasing I believe they claimed 12". At any rate Good Luck on your purchase :) .

Just took delivery of the tires today. Here's some pics of the Mickey Thompson 325/60R18's (load range E). They are Wide!

The wheels are on the way and should be here about the middle of next week. If anyone needs Eagle 114's, WheelsForLess.com were the absolute cheapest. I tried to get a price match because they were temporarily out of stock and every online retailer I called said they were below their cost and to grab them if I could. They got a shipment in today and my wheels are on the way. Oh yeah, FREE SHIPPING! Oo.

They only sell first quality wheels (no factory 2nds) and that price includes center caps, lugs, and stems.

I'm ordering ZoopSeal today and my Innovative Balancing Beads with filtered valve cores are on the way. I used these on my 35" Toyo M/T's and they worked great. No wheel weights at all to damage the finish and a smooth ride.

Anyone have pics of this size tire on a 4x4 with no lift? I'm curious how it will look.
