Comments from anyone appreciated. At around 800 thousand (odometer inoperative) my truck developed a huge leak at the side cover just above the oil pressure sender. Got that repaired at a reputable shop and now I have a significant knock that I can't narrow to a single cylinder, rather all seem to be knocking. Timing is correct and I don't think there is anything on a piston. A new lift pump was installed and at this time I am leaning toward a problem with all the injectors. I am not a beginner with diesel engines but this is a wrinkle that I have not experienced. Anyone had a knock that developed in such a manner?

I am wondering if the truck warrants the expense of a rebuild and I want to exhaust other possibilities before going there.

Thanks

Yes I still have five first gens with only an 89 and 92 in service.

Try cracking injector lines loose one at a time to see if you can narrow it down to a cylinder or notice a change. Did this happen immediately after having the tappet cover gasket off?

Thanks Matt for the response. Pretty much right after the side gaskety repair. It wouldn't start up and the lift pump was replaced. As soon as it was running the knock developed. I have done everything except change the injectors. Every cylinder seems about the same.

Put your hand on the lift pump with the engine running. I'll bet you feel your knock. Then I'll bet on a bad lift pump. (even though it's new)

new lift pump hummm

Well I will certainly give that a try. I am sceptical being that it was factory new. But I have had faulty new parts.
