Ram Cummins vs. New Ford 7.3 gasser

This new 2019 3500 fuel tank drives me nuts. My 06' would take close near 33 gallons of fuel once the low fuel message appeared.. Now with my new 19', once the low fuel message appears I can only get 26 gallons in the tank. I don't let it get down past a 1/4 of a tank so....... I'm finding myself fueling up every 10 days or less. On my 06', when the fuel gauge was on empty the tank was empty, On the 19'.... When the gauge hit's empty there's still close near 6 gallons in the tank. I'm figuring they changed it due to the CP4 pump... you don't want to run the CP4 dry nor with hot fuel. So now I'm about to pull the trigger and order a 50gal Titan fuel tank.... DPP Diesel has them for $1215.00 with free shipping. I see a few of you have the Titan tanks as seen in your signatures. Just curious if I should do anything else to make anything "better" while swapping tanks. I don't care about DTE calculations being off... As long as the gauge represents the actual fuel level I'm good. Should I get the tank shield also?

I don't think the cp4 has anything to do with gauge being off. It was calibrated that way on my 2016 and 2018, long before the cp4 was added to the Ram Cummins.

Now back to your regular program.

The Titan tank is awesome. I just installed one in a 2006.....when I drive south next winter I’ll be picking one up for my 2018 and installing it then.

I am looking at a titan as well. You wouldn't think missing 3 or 4 gallons to be such a big deal but I have found on my 17 I sure miss those extra few gallons compare to my 01 when towing.
Also wish I could get ten days on a tank of fuel guess I could if I got out and pushed it 5 or 6 days out of the ten. Just drive too many miles each week.

The combination of 2 mpg worse mileage and 6 gal less capacity vs. my old Duramax has me at the fuel pumps a whole lot more often as well. I need a 100 gal. auxiliary tank this season for a long road trip, and then it will go on my other truck. Cash is getting slim this season, so I can only buy one or the other. For next year I'm holding out to see if the increased capacity tank on the 2020's will be cheaper to buy from Ram than a Titan tank.

I wish Titan made a larger tank for my 2013 crew cab short bed. I so miss those extra 6 gal of fuel. Back in 2014 we were on our way down to the Fla Keys. A trip. I have done many times with the 05 I use to own. It would give me roughly 350-400 miles on a tank towing . The 13 is dry at 295 miles. That year South Carolina had a bad Ice storm. No one had power. We got stuck for a night because no fuel. Old truck would have made it to Savanna with fuel to spare. The 13 with it’s 30 gal tank missed it by 18 miles. Savanna had power. Middle of no where SC had none.

You might check with them again, as I think I read somewhere, maybe the current TDR issue, that they have introduced a shortbed tank.

On Edit:

I had checked with them in the past an was told being the 2013 first DEF and last of the old design , pre coil spring. That they wouldn’t be making a tank for it. But thanks I will check.

Yes the new Titan is for the new Frame. Doesn't work on the old Design.
And it hangs down a full 4" deeper then the stock tank, so it is for on-road use only.

Titan says the tank hangs 2.5" lower...

Done deal.... Placed my order for the 51 gallon Titan with optional shield. 4Wheel parts has a presidents day weekend sale where they pay the sales tax if ordered online.... No shipping charges since I'm going to pick it up at the Santa Rosa store. $1214 for the tank and $270 for the shield.

Next order I place will be for the Carli 3" Pintop system with fabricated radius arms, Torsion sway bar and full deaver rear spring packs.

Might think about an in bed auxiliary tank vs. just replacing the main tank.

Speed of refueling is something to consider with an in-bed transfer tank when you are using BOTH high speed nozzles at a truck stop. The in bed tank would allow the truck stop pump to run at full speed where the main pickup tank would give you a diesel bath if you tried. 2 AM, hot and sweaty, still hot out, and just finished loading up the cargo trailer with it's parts to be delivered cargo... Yeah I didn't want to stand by the pump any longer than I had too. It's a real irritant to me some of the S L O W automotive diesel pumps around where "I can literally wiz faster than this!" The line being held up by slow pumps is something else.

Then it's main tank plus 30,50,100 gal of the in bed aux tank so you get more total fuel capacity for the money spent. Sometimes it took us 4 total swipes on two different cards to fill the main and aux tank due to $75 and two use per card cut off limits.

I would recommend Titan's fuel tank due to the corrosion mess Biodiesel poses to metal tanks.

I did but 80% of the time I need every sq ft of bed space I can utilize. The Chevron station I go to has decent diesel pumps that are pretty fast... About 8 gal a minute.

I answered to the question for the short wheel base, and that one is exactly 3.9" lower then stock.
A friend of mine wanted one till he heard that he would end up with a potbelly pig.

Ill take the pot belly. Who installs them? Will it impact warranty in any way? Im getting fuel twice a day, the ATC is about 34ft long. It gets to be a bit of a challenge.
