I,m going to be pulling a 24ft trailer in a couple of weeks, and my truck EGT runs a little to hot with it all the way foward, how far should I move the plate back to cool things down?Or is it just an trial and error type of thing?

. 005" or . 010" can make a noticeable difference in EGTs without a big loss in perceived performance. Knock it back . 010 and see how it works. You can leave out the upper, forward screw on the AFC housing (the one that's tough to get at under the injector lines) to more easily make adjustments. The AFC will stay put using just the remaining 3 until you get the plate where you want it.

Yeah, it's kind of a trial and error type of thing.

Pulling and Running empty like apples to oranges!

If you have never pulled with your truck since adding power (getting high EGTs... ) you might be pleasently surprised that EGTs are not a problem when under a load.

That is the case with my truck.

A good load keeps boost up and one finds they driver more sensable the WOT runs empty.

Pulling below 2700 rpms helps allot also.

The carrier that I have has no mounting ears on it "type 2"... ... the type 1 usually are found on trucks with 9 1/4 axles and have the mounting ears, type 2 on Dana axle trucks, and the type 2 Why non of my supplier had I dont know..... hense the dealer:( ... . Rick

I cannot understand going to a dealer for a bearing. Why not a bearing supply? I have NEVER failed to get a needed bearing from sources such as Beariing Engineering. They are one of many.

Worst case I had was a transom bearing for a boat with an I/O. Boat dealer wanted $105. One bearing house played stupid. Another looked and said 'Oh, a boat bearing' went into the back and came out 2 min later with an identical match. $40.

This is a carrier brg not a std type cone or roller brg. You have to buy it as an assy. beleive I tried, I work at an auto/industrial supply store and its not available...

Well I got to move the fuel plate back this weekend didnt make much of a difference... . I move it back a good 1/8" from full foward position... I guess the real test is going to be when I pull that trailer... ...

HEy Al, how about u find a front wheel bearing for a 95dodge 2500 4by4 at a bearing warehouse ... i think your streak may be over... . IF u do YOu can save members hundreds of dollars... .

Rjones,

Try putting a valet switch in. We have almost the same setup, except mine's a 5-speed, and running in valet mode, my EGT's won't hit 1000 at WOT, (empty), but they'll go up real quick in normal mode. Cuts way down on the smoke, too. Haven't tried it with a load, yet.

What I have done in the past is take the bearing to the bearing supply and they have measured it and matched it. I doubt that any car manufacturer makes bearings. Most come from Japan. (They put the American bearing manufacturers out of business about 10 years ago by unfair trade. ) Most (not all) are metric. In the case of an assembly, I suppose it is possible that the assembly is designed to not allow replacement of a bearing.

If I had a front wheel for a 2500 4WD apart I would persue this.

Now I MAY have access to one this weekend. Doing the KDP tab on my son's 96. Also starter contacts and Amsoil in rear end and transmission. Also hoses, belt, antifreeze and a lube job. WHEW! Time permitting may look at the wheel bearings. Actually depends on blood loss and muscle pain!!!!!

Rick,

No, I'm not riding in it. I drive enough around here on a daily basis. I try and find back roads when I'm on the bike. Supposed to be raining here all weekend anyway. I'll PM you with my number and you can give me a call when you get here, if you want

Hey al , their Timken BEarings... ... . i have the part number here somewhere... bearing distributors... bearings inc... there is alot of diff bearing companies here in the midwest... nobody will sell them to me... i would have to take the bearings to them and let them search there parts by measurement... ... Even if i can find the bearings by themself I don't know if it will work because i think the hub/wheel bearing assembly isn't made to be seperated?i don't know if it could be reassembled

TIMKEN. Not surprising. My experience has been very good with taking a bearing in and letting a bearing house match. My guess is the bearing is pressed in and can be changed. I have never had a bearing house refuse to sell to me. Only once that I had a problem and it was a counter man doing stupid. All the rest were quite helpfull.

Just a little note Got back from the trip everything went fine the hottest I saw the EGT go to was 1200 climbing a mountain but that was the highest it averaged about750 -800 i was even impressed with the milage I got 14 mpg:) Alot better than I thought it would be..... Rick
