This is the questions. Already have Edge comp and have been very happy with that. (installed for over 100,000 miles. ) What about adding Smarty to this? It's a little price to justify getting it for a scan tool, but I'm not affraid to use that excuse. Is it a viable repacement for the comp? If so, I may have a comp for sale.

What do you guys think??

I sold my comp and got the Smarty because to get the increases I did not have to tap the pump wire.

My take on the VP44's longevity is super clean fuel, water free, correct volume, correct psi, cool fuel, cool environment, and don't mess with it's PSG because the PSG is already working it's rear end off.

Some successfully tap the pump wire for long periods of time (years) and I am not sure why it works, but it does.

Mines lasted with the wire tapped. I'm not on the original VP, but I had 2 lp's go completely out on the first VP. Since then I'm rollin' with a FP gauge and a BD mixture with good results so far. I don't think I can go backwards on Power though. I'm not replacing my comp unless it equals the horses.

Smarty doesn't replace Comp

I don't think I can go backwards on Power though. I'm not replacing my comp unless it equals the horses.

The Smarty is rated for 65 HP. That's the limit of the VP without tapping the wire. The Comp is rated at 100-120 HP. If you can use all the Comp's potential and don't want to give it up, then the Smarty is no substitute. The Smarty can give you a big power hit early in the acceleration curve, but only about half the power of the Comp overall. If you find that sub-level 5 on the Comp isn't punchy enough, you might consider adding the Smarty. But I'm not seeing a replacement in your future.

I've had the EZ, Comp, and now Smarty. Each has it's advantages and disadvantages. My desire to not pierce the pump wire on my 1-yr old VP44 is the only thing keeping me from going back to the Comp. I really like in-cab adjustability and sub-level 1 low-boost defueling because I hate to throw smoke for no good reason. In fact, I can't use the Smarty on any CaTCHER program without excessive smoke at launch unless I'm super careful with the accelerator pedal. Having to drive like that and looking in the mirror to see if I'm doing it right has gotten old.

I got off on a tangent there, but for me it's all part of the rationalization process.

Neil

It's hard to say no to power

I have just purchased a smarty and I will say that there is good and bad with everything. The good things are that my fuel mileage sky rocketed on my last long trip from Pocatello, Id to Bozeman, Mt; the overhead computer said I was getting 27+ but when hand calulated I reached about 24. 5 MPG with the smarty on 6 and comp on 4x5 with lots of hills. It also helped to spool my turbo on the lower rpms. The bad things are that if you are too heavy on the throttle you will roll the smoke and you have to plug it in to select a different catcher software. I feel that the good definately outweights the bad. It has been one of the best mods done so far. Andrew

Thanks Andrew. We are going to lessen the bottom end smoke and we will work on the fuel economy too.

Thank you

Bob

This part BLOWS me away!!! :confused: I must be doing something HORRIBLY wrong, and it is NOT my right foot. :{

DLGONZO- upgrade to drag comp or get the TST PM3 with SMARTY for a great replacement!!

Looked at these a couple years ago, but never did anything. Took a look at Edges website and couldn't find anything about the Comp anymore. I don't remember what the differences were.

I guess I'll wait for the new truck before getting a Smarty. Just can't spend that much on a scan tool when I have access to one already.

For towing it's hard to beat the low smoke output of the Smarty running solo on the top setting (9?). For all out fun it's hard to beat the Comp on 5 X 5 stacked with the Smarty dropped a notch (level 8 I think with no timing). I don't think there's a setting on the Comp that can match the Smarty for for low smoke towing. The Comp seems to want to over fuel and turn day into night. I had an EZ in the past and the EZ makes twice the smoke and half the towing power of the Smarty.

Steve at Performance Turbo Motorsports had the best price on the Smarty. I spent some cash on other items at the same time that put my Smarty price at $625.

Anyhow, where are the updates to our smarty??? I've been waiting for a long time for an update so I can run the top setting without so much low end smoke. Bob, any ideas when it'll be available??

I love it as is but if it had less low end smoke on the fuel econo setting I would love it even more. The rest of the settings Im fine with.

Great product even for my tired 2nd gen!

All ears for less smoke with the Smarty. I run it 'stock' in any urban environment as I just can't discipline myself enough to keep from blowing too much smoke. . 'just say no' isn't working for me... :)

I run DD1's, 4" exhaust, stock turbo, stock intake with KN and one of the old 3 level Edge fueling units. The old Edge will smoke on 'yellow' or ' red'. Stacking it with the Smarty is great for juice but bad for 'the cloud'... :)

I had to off my Smarty as the bad clearly outweighed the good.

Going ack to an Edge product I regained all my driveability and lost no fuel economy. It just works better for my combo.
