Looking back at this, I actually did smoke someone once. It was like the 2nd week I had my truck, just this summer. I was leaving work and I stomped on it hard to lay some rubber. Well just so happened that one of the guys I work with was standing on the side of the road when I did this, and I he got a direct blast. It was pretty funny, though I didn't realize the truck would smoke like that.



I suppose if someone was being a real jerk, or I new the person I might smoke them, but just a guy riding bike on the street, no way. That's like the people that hit the water hole while a person is walking on the street.

I was coming back to work after stepping out to grab some lunch. Couple blocks from the office, I'm sitting at a light in the through lane, when a 2nd Gen slides up in the left turn lane next to me. Looked to be about a 2-3" lift kit, and the noise at idle told me it was a heavily BOMBed 12-valve, from intake to tailpipe.



Light turns green, he floors it to beat the oncoming traffic to make his left.



The sound was more like a Cummins NTC-400 than any B5. 9 I've ever heard, and that truck laid down a smokescreen any Navy ship would be proud of.



After a couple of coughs thanks to my open driver's window, I actually did laugh :-laf

Here are my personal/favorite smoking rules.



Cyclists: I don't smoke.

Ricers: Get smoked.

Able minded humans: I don't smoke.

Bass: Get smoked.

Bass boats: I don't smoke.

Hemis: Get smoked.

Stogies: Get smoked.

Wacky Tbacky: I don't smoke.



Thumbs up to all the cyclists out there. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd pull out my Trek, Liquid 10... and zoom around the block a couple of times.



Smoking victims are smoked using a 24v 5. 9L HPCR engine, TST PMCR, stacked with an EZ.



Please do not smoke law abiding citizens, preachers, rabbis or law enforcement.

I have been on the same road that Bandit1 is referring to..... and yes, they are as ignorant as they come. The bicyclist could have 6 feet to the right of them and will not get over to let you around. Posted speed limit is 40 and they are farting around and won't let you around.

The first and most important point, is that bicycles are ENTITLED, by law, to that lane. And the center lane when turning left. If you don't like it, change the law or learn to share.



Traveling to the right of the fog line is usually pretty potholed and dangerous to ride on. Riding on the sidewalk is technically illegal. Learn to share.



Behavior like that really pizzes off cops. Especially bike cops. I know it would take me an hour to run wants and warrants on you, we would wait for a DOT-commercial officer to go over you truck, "in the interest of public safety", of course. No cat? Tow it! Excessive noise? Tow it! Overweight? Tow it! Bumper or lights too high? Tow it! If there is a way to send you walking, I would find it.



And lastly, remember that cyclist are usually pretty healthy, so the cyclist you harrass today, just might jerk a knot in your neck tomorrow.

This seems to be a controversial (or political) thread..... I'll throw in my 2 cents. I own 1 airboat, 1 bass boat, 1 whaler (boston), 1 saiboat (Nacra 6. 0), 1 RV (fifth wheel), 1 Litespeed Ultimate, 1 Litespeed Vortex, 1 Giant NRS 1, 1 Specialized FSR and several other assorted bicycles. Which do you think I am more interested in??



Yes I ride... ... I am a hardcore cyclist... ... . And I feel your pain... ... I actually fear for my life on most of my rides these days unless it is a group ride with one of the local clubs (1,000s of miles per year on local roads). And people still get run over (even on group rides). Cell Phone talkers, Drunks, Hate Crime Morons, etc..... :-{}



People just dont give a crap or are too self centerted to think about anything else but themselves. Most of these cowards would not have the sand to even try to confront you out of their vehicle. But put them in a truck or SUV and they get some sort of bizzare "God" complex? I have yet to figure it out...

Sounds like you may need to scope out a new place to ride (road). Or buy a mountain bike and take it into the woods for a while.....

A good debate would be over smoking people who don't deserve it verses people who do. And how or who should define that???

IMHO, this is the best statement yet... .



I am certainly not in the anti-smoking club, but I absolutely do practice restraint. If I smoke someone they should at least have a clue why they got smoked. Smoking someone because their bad habit or lifestyle annoys me would drop me to their level.



Merging in traffic, common courtesy dictates that every other vehicle merges, regardless of the vehicle and/or what they are towing, etc... . Rude in my book is not following the the logical courtesy. When the a-hole driver gets smoked, I would expect them to put two and two together as to why they got smoked. Same as the cyclist that does not share the road. The window shaking boom-boom "crap" (IMO) that kids listen to irritates the hell out of me. But would they have a clue as to why they got smoked? btw, I am not picking on anybody or their smoking preferences. These are just the best examples I could come up with. I'll smoke, but there it typically a warning first, visual such as eye contact (merging) or a puff of smoke (tailgater), audio via motor rev or horn (cyclist/pedestrian).



A little mutual respect (share the road) and common courtesy (give way) would make life a lot more pleasant for people.

btw, I would like one of those electro-disruption type thingys that were used in the Fast and Furious movie to discourage the kids from "boom-booming" my windows. Until then I will have to continue my habit of competing with their noise by pulling my front end next to their door and keeping the RPM up. :-laf Much more effective than smoke, but I suppose that would be another thread...

I guess my only arguement to sharing the road is that if they have the same rights as the vehicles(which I feel they should) then they should have the common courtesy to allow traffic to pass them when they are going 20 mph under the speed limit. After all if they are being treated as a vehicle then thye should be given a ticket for impeding traffic flow when they are going 15-20 MPH on a road with a posted speed limit of 40 MPH. Rest assured if I get stuck behind one for a couple miles that will not get over and let me by, they will get a WELL DESERVED soot bath that they will not forget.

i agree is lmills, the party on the recieving end of the soot bath needs to deserve it, i dont go around looking to smoke people. and most of the time i dont even mean to do it, but when driving any overfueled truck (especially a 12v w/auto) and you try to accelerate to safely overtake the slower driver and merge back onto the proper side of the road then there is going to be some smoke i dont care what anyone says.

Now that cyborg has enlighted us on what pizzes a cop off (and of all people i would know) my only argument is that maybe they should step back and see what pizzes the rest of the motorists and population off. In the end cops are protectors of the people, and people pay taxes which translates into salaries. merely just stating the other side of the story, bc as a cop has to think is outside of the box and also has to realize that there is always another side to the story.
