Started my truck this morning and when I got to the corner I thought I noticed a slight miss, kept going and now noticed a lot of smoke, went about a mile and turned around, miss seems worse, more smoke, got it home and the engine was rattling so I shut it down. Called a wrecker and they're towing it to the dealer. Bad injector? This is a babied 01 that just turned 100,000 miles.

Caution on "taking it to the dealer". Try the things mentioned above, report back with your results, look for more help here - then "if all else fails" dealer.

Hope things work out for you.

I have never had my current trucl cold enough to gel the fuel, but the old '89 did gel once on a very cold day. It ran very smooth, but gradually slower until it just stopped.

I would be concerned about possible VP44 failure.

I just noticed this thread but i was gonna suggest an injector also. Good thing you got it fixed now. My #3 injector split the tip and and then melted the piston... . I'm still in the middle of a total rebuild. :(

what i was told was to replace them all at once, or you will be piecing them in and out shortly. (How shortly is unknown but if you have the $$ I would just do them all at once. )

Look up mid-west injection and go with the marine injectors. They average about $50/piece if you buy the set. than a dealer here in town could buy them wholesale for even. And they are brand new, not rebuilds.
