Ceiling fan question.

Stuipd Kids.. Read on!

Sorry the world is not the wonderful happy place you pretend it is. Welcome to reality!

Not executing the man would be a big step towards showing all the bad guys that we are not serious about the penalty imposed.

Want to make the world a better place? Wipe your tears and get tough with the bad guys. There is no place for them here on this crowded planet. How about some laws that give us "good guys" some rights. I am really sick of all the winey do gooders helping the trash survive. "Just one more chance" "Terrorists are people too" yada yada

Sunday School??? Look at the absolutely Brutal History of Christianity. It has only been the last 75 years or so that they have adopted the "Don't hurt anyone approach" Get real! :{

What point did executing him serve? Revenge? A deterrent to others? Did it bring the victims back? What happened to 'thou shalt not kill'? I'll bet most of you here spouting off about how glad you are that he died are christian republicans. Did you forget what you learned in sunday school?

Nope. Here's what the Scripture says about this subject:

Romans 13:3-5 (King James Version)

King James Version (KJV)

Public Domain

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

Man, I am glad I don't live in Texas.

So am I.

I'm glad you brought that up.

Mt 5:21, "... thou shalt not kill. . " Kill = Strongs 5407, "To be a MURDERER" from 5406, a murderer (always of criminal or intentional homocide)

Jesus said that "thou shalt do no murder", not execution.

Dueteronomy 19:11-13. If any man kill another by "lieing in wait" (ambush or premediated murder) we are to chase him (police) and deliver him to the avenger of the blood (judge/jury) and execute him. "so that it may go well with thee God has a special dislike of murders and wants them sent to him ASAP to deal with. And the warning reads that if we dont send them to him then things wont "go well with thee".

The reason he wants them there is because they have to face the one(s) they killed and then plead their case. After lying about a murder for 25 years ("I'm innocent") then when Tookie finally faced the ones he mudered... you go from there.

I John 3:15, "no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. " In other words, no murder can have eternal salvation in this life, he MUST face the victim, and then God decides.

If you plan to spout Scripture you better read the whole book first.

What about the New Testament? Peter said "Do not repay evil for evil or abuse for abuse; but, on the contrary, repay with a blessing. It is for this that you were called--that you might inherit a blessing. " I can find plenty of other passages that refute the notion of killing for revenge.

Regardless, show me proof that the death penalty is a deterrent.

a few things come to mind...

1. God forgives, obviously the government doesn't.

2. There are 4 dead people who could've been nominated for the Nobel Peace prize had they not been killed.

3. Lumping death penalty supporters as Christian Republicans only supports your ignorance.

4. I'm not glad anyone was killed. Especially the victims. I'm glad the sentence was finally carried out. There is a difference.

5. I should be well into retirement by the time Scott Petersen gets the needle.

Paul was talking of RELIGIOUS persecution.

Read Matt 5:17, Jesus said "I dont come to change the law" but to fulfill.

Last time I checked, Romans is in the New Testament - right after Acts and right before I Corinthians.

Regardless, show me proof that the death penalty is a deterrent.
The recidivism rate for executed criminals is 0%.

You're then making the assumption the government is controlled by the teachings of Christ. You're also associating revenge and punishment as being one in the same.

Regardless, show me any punishment by the law being a deterrent.

edit-- and taken in context, Peter was referring to personal transgressions against one another- not the government or laws as set forth by such.

If you execute a murderer, the deterant rate is 100% for him.

Dueteronomy 28 - 31 Paraphrasing, If we harken and OBEY ALL the words of the law then these things shall cease happening among us. Others will see the SWIFT (supposed to be anyway) execution and decide that may not be a good idea to muder someone over $125.

So you don't think the majority of death penaly supporters are christian republicans? I thought I was stating a fact, not being ignorant. Thanks for clearing things up.

If you are glad the sentence was carried out, then you sound like a death penalty supporter.

Scott Petersen will be around for a long time because of our flawed legal system. It scares me that that same legal system can put people to death. Ever wonder how people have been put to death in the US for a crime they didn't commit?

I don't believe deterrence is a required justification of capital punishment.

I don't think state sponsored execution should be a trademark of the most modern, developed, and advanced society in the history of mankind.

I'm still glad I don't live in Texas, and you're probably glad you don't live with us friuts in California :)

Substantially fewer than the number of innocent victims of criminals who have been turned loose into society to rape, molest and kill again.

The number of which is much smaller than the number of former prisoners who have been successfully rehabilitated in prison and are now functioning, productive members of society.

Not germane to the original question.

Dont you think that getting rid of even one cold blooded killer is good for society? I see your point but do you see mine?

I do see your point. Trust me, I'm no apologist for the killers and rapists. I hate them as much as the next guy. Its just the bigger part of my beliefs that has a fundamental problem with the death penalty.
