Called Miller Spec. earlier today. The injector and injector tube removal tools should be here before the week is out - just in time for the RV injector install. I know they're not absolutely necessary for this effort, but I'll feel a little better about having "the right tool for the job". Thanks, everyone!

Bob-Texas,
Bob after removing the cover from the fuel pump gear, rotate engine till the timing mark is pointed north [up]. Adjust intake on 1/2/4 and exhaust on 1/3/5. Rotate engine until the mark has rotated 540 degrees [all the way around past north to end up with marker pointed south (down)].
Now adjust intake on 3/5/6 and exhaust on
2/4/6.
Intake . 010
Exhaust . 020
Engine temp below 140 degrees F. (60 deg. C)
Hope this answers your question,
Skeet

Thanks Skeet-Cathey , I'm getting the 275 hp injectors in a couple weeks, putting them in myself. Want to do a complete overhead while it is apart.

Injector installation is ON HOLD! Miller Specialty Tools has let me down. After ordering the injector remover ($19. 32) and the injector tube remover ($5. 68) on Monday - and after being told they'd arrive in three business days, which was yesterday - and after paying a whopping 39% for shipping and handling ($9. 32!), I called them today only to find out that Miller didn't ship them out until two days after I'd ordered them. That means NEXT WEEK before I get the tools. Although I know from all the instructions and experience of others that I could do the job without the "right" tools, I'll be damned if I'm gonna toss $33. 32 into my tool box without ever having used the things.

I'm downright disappointed. It wouldn't have been a problem if they hadn't TOLD ME I'd have the tools before the weekend... Oh, well, I'll get over it. 'Sorry about the whine. (Anyone got cheese... ?)

Vaughn -

Nice clear description, the note about finger-tightening without resistance the injector line nut into the cylinder head is a good point. I had a small leak on #5 and once I went back and made sure it turned easily things seemed fine. I liked your no-fear approach to adjusting the valve-lash clearance. You must have a good feel for these engines. Me, I'm just hoping the thing tolerates my learning on it.

Tulsa618-

I had to chuckle when I saw how simple the extractors were, but since I can use all the help I can get it sure was nice to have that part of the process go just like I knew what I was doing.

As for my impressions of the result, I have to say there is a faster spool up on the turbo, a little kick at the start and just a more solid feeling through the rpm range with just enough extra umph that I'm finding myself coming up on folks faster than I've been used to when I step on it in 4th and 5th.

Now I'm really looking forward to 1-1. 5 more mpg. We'll see this weekend.
