top speed

What does a guy have to do to get our top speed up... I know this engine could have some speed if we didnt run out of rpm. More gears?

How much though... I know the banks truck can move... but I wonder what a truck not built for top speed could realistically do if we didnt run out of rpm. Upgrade brakes, get good tires rated for it, and a transmission or rearend that would allow us to find a top speed not limited by redline would be interesting. Then we would be fighting aerodynamic drag and friction. I know we have trucks and not sports cars but I think we can all agree our trucks can beat a good percentage of cars out there. I love tractor pulling, I love draging, but one thing I dont see us doing is modding for high speed, maybe because our trucks might become "impractical" to own because we could not tow, but who knows there are alot of smart people and companies here maybe we could get the best of both worlds?

If I'm on the Interstate (75mph speed limit) and drop the hammer; 115 is about 4 seconds away. Maybe 3.

not out of rpm's = unlimited speed, provided the motor has the power to pull it. will any cummins have the power to move it nahh :-laf .

Yeah I'm curious about the gears the guy that said 115 has also? My truck is an '05 48re 4x4 Q/C with 3:73 rear gear set. With the Edge / Attitude turned all the way up, I can get to the governed top speed (108) where it feels like you've hit a brick wall. Also the truck is not red lined at that point either, so I know it's electronically limited. I think the real question is, what does one have to do to disable the governor so the truck will go past 108 mph? I have heard that with a scan tool and a dyno the truck will max out around 120 stock but have not seen this personally and my source isn't the most credible.

Mine would only do 107 or 108 due to the oem speed limiter. I put on a BD top speed eliminator and the speedo just goes to 85 or 90 and the truck continues to climb. Frankly I have no idea now how fast it goes but it was pulling very hard when the speed limiter was affecting it. I guess the drag strip will show me this summer.

I thought that after PGreenleaf posted that he can hit 100 easily. I get nervous around 85 or so! Too much mass rolling down the highway to be going that fast!



Now, I have gotten to 172mph before in a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4.

Last time I did a top speed run I hit 116, believe tach was at 3150-3200. Heck I've been towing 48' hi cube boxes at 75 the past few weeks!! Wonder if that didn't have something to do with my transmission failure last week!! :{

Just for the heck of it rather than assuming we/me are idiots and running a 100 plus down a crowded highway,... how about the real circumstance, in my case with a dual lane 2 mile straight stretch with no one on the road but me at 5am. If I have a problem in that run it is just that,... MY problem, and for danged sure not yours. I'm nuts,... your nuts! heh, to much mass, Do you have any idea how much that "sports car" weights? for a "sports car" at 4100+#'s, it's rather heavy.
