topping off the tank?

I just turned my 1998. 5 into a "service" type vehicle. I put a 100 Gal refuel tank, plus the 50 gal AERO in stock location and the transfer flow 38 Gal spare tire tank. Then I do what dean does on a little 40 minute one way road trip ----

"I always fill up in New Jersey right off I-84 where NY, NJ and PA meet at the Delaware Water Gap. The fuel in NJ is a bit cheaper. The station has a truck isle where you can pump your own diesel and a car isle where the diesel is pumped by an attendant. Go figure" Nice to get 160 Gallons at one time- that truck is now the filling station for the jetta and the '04. I am really not saving that much money- a little bit of time and a lot of convience compared to climbing on top of a tractor- but it makes me feel good to pay a little less NY taxes. People flip burgers all year for what me and my wife paid in NY taxes

The only problem filling up at the Citgo in NJ is starting from a dead stop at the bottom of that 3 mile grade pulling the fiver. I am sure I burn up my savings before I hit the top. I was just going up to 6th @ 60 going over the top last April on my way back from Tenn. That grade (from a dead stop at the bottom) has always been the test for me. I got 47 mph with my 98. 5 five speed 4. 10s pulling the same trailer.

I think you need to top it off until it runs out of the filler neck,jack up left side and try to get a little more in. Then put a water bed in the back of S/B truck as a double will barley fit. Fill it with fuel!Take the water bed heater,plug it in the acc. outlet(keep fuel from gelling) and run a hose from bottom of the water bed into the inlet of the truck. That ought to make overhead distance to empty a little inaccurate but what the hey. WARNING won't work well with stacks!:--)Oh yes. Make sure that fueling boxes are stack as when water bed gets low on hard accel the fuel can be condensed to the rear side of it. Need the SILVER tinted headlite bulbs so other drivers heading your way will be blinded/glared off the road(wouldn't wont any headons with all that fuel)MERRY CHRISTMAS. P. S. and call D. C. to complain about the situation!
