I posted an earlier problem, but I didn't quite make myself clear, so I will rephrase the problem. I have a '96 with the 47re auto, with 37,000mi. and it was rebuilt by the dealer at 33,000 including a new stock TC. Since then, when going down the highway if you touch the brake or let off the accelerator abruptly, it disengages as it should, but then refuses to relock the TC. Overdrive works fine. With OD off, (not able to engage) the TC refuses to lock in 3rd. The only mods to the trans was the line pressure which Bill K. recommended and it shifts fine. The TC thru the normal shift sequence locks up at approx. 32mph. The service manual says it should lock up after OD... does anyone elses TC lock up AFTER OD? Any suggestions on this problematic trans? Thanks for the help.

It sounds to me like the kickdown cable is out of adjustment. I have a 47RH (rear wheel, hydraulic control) instead of a 47RE (rear wheel, electronic control) so I'm not sure of what difference the governor type would have on the situation. The TPS is always suspect in any kind of OD or TCC problem of course, but since it happened just after they worked on it I suspect that the cable is out of adjustment. It may be a CPM problem.

The kickdown cable is easy to adjust once you figure it out so it's worth a try. The manual description is NOT clear. Unless you have fingers with a lot of strength it's easier to use a small C clamp to push and hold the button. The thing that gets adjusted is the length of the cable housing, not the length of the cable. The kick down cable is the one of the three on the throttle linkage assembly. It's the bottom one. The cable housing has a black cube shaped thing on it near the end. There is a button shaped bulge on it. This is the housing for the spring, it is NOT the button. The button is the flat place opposite the bulge. Before changeing the adjustment measure how far the pointed end that the wire comes out of protrudes from the housing so you can put it back like it was if you want. Tighten the C clamp on the button to release the cable and move the pointed part in or out of the housing. Run it and see if that affects the situation. If it does then mess around with it until you get it like you want. If this fails put it back like you found it.

Thanks for the info, as I wasn't sure how to adjust what looked like a fixed cable mount. You are right, the manual leaves a lot to be desired sometimes, usually the critical info. I'll give it a try.
