I have a few questions about the broken input shaft.

Did it happen with stock line pressures?

How much HP did the truck have?

Was he doing the lock to lock shifts, even in 1st and 2nd gears?

If so did it break during a shift from 1st or 2nd?

DTT Smart Controller

Greg:

Good show on the controller. If I could just get away from the cabinets, uh,uh. I am having one put on mine, also replacing the PAC brake (maybe). If mine isn't frozen up will use it. Now if the GV will hold together for a while. They(GV) said up to 120k before an overhaul. All this transmission stuff is taking all the wind out of the easter bunny, fathers day and several more.

Would like to hear some more experiences on thee smart controller. :)

Stake,

I noticed you are wondering about the TC %... ... . I have a TC with your name written all over it. In lock up it is 100% and in fluid coupling it is 99. 8% Developed up here in Canada. Drop me a line for more details or I can ship it to you overnight. It will be dropped on your big toe by the UPS man by morning! The valve body will be thrown in for 1/2 price if you buy within the next 10 minutes. Call now Stake, operators are standing by.

Swamp Donkey:

The only downside to that deal would be the fact that the UPS charges would be more than the value of the t/c. Sounds tight though. :D

RONSRAM1999

Ron, I have to apologize for my inaction. I have been an armchair observer of this thread, trying to understand why you have received such negative comment for exhibiting individual thought. It is quite clear that there are those who blindly follow the current trends with an overly biased perception to input that is contrary. Before I get carried away and climb atop of my soapbox, I want you to be assured that there is one TDR member who supports your position and finds you not at fault. Carry on!

Just some thoughts

As far as H. P. for the 89 converter, Strict-9 is putting 450 or so on it and loves it, I very seriously doubt mine will ever change to a 91 or 93 even with upgrades. The smart controller would be cool, I'm not really concerned with 3rd to 4th gear but unlock to lock I would like to delay till at least 1800 or so in 4th instead of using a unlock switch. I think Stefan was doing a power break test when he broke the shafts, exspensive mistake but it shows the high H. P. wanting people what can happen. So far this is good stuff and were learning allot, thanks guys.

Interesting how something can be hashed and rehashed over and over again. It looks like some one is trying to loss something in all the posts. Just my humble opinion.

Ron

I put almost 370 down ,unlocked in 3rd,with a stock lift pump,Those who dyno a lot told me that in OD,locked up,with my pusher pump i would put approximately 410hp to the wheels, and I m running the 89%. I love the 89,IMO,its the best for over 90% of the trucks out there.

KGoode,

The input shafts i have seen broken were because of locked to locked shifting. The broken hubs that i have seen are about a

50-50 split. On the hubs i have also seen them broken on stock trucks with no modification what so ever.

On the output shafts most were broken during stall tests, power breaking and sled pulling.

GLASSMITHS,

The smart controller's primary design is for the individual to be able to adjust indivual programming of the overdrive circuit.

It also allows you to control the lockup circuit not only with the vehicle speed but with throttle pedal position.

The second gear lockup is a combination of valve body and smart controller. It allows you to control 2nd gear lock up based on vehicle speed, throttle pedal position .

While most people find this is not a feature they have to use very often it does allow you to control 2nd gear from 18mph to approx 42 mph.

Although the speed is adjustable I found this is the best rpm range and vehicle speed with 354 gear ratio.

There are lots of different products available to control your lock up, we designed the smart controller with protecting the transmission in mind. We found that some people were not manualling locking out od below certain speeds and as I feel that lugging your engine in od with the tc locked up is harmfull to your transmission and tc, we added it as a feature in the box .

Anyone considering an exhaust brake with an automatic along with lockup devices no matter whose they are. ' keep in mind it does shorten the life of the transmission and tc. All we have done is try to minimize the amount of damage and wear .

Smart Controller

Thanks to Bill K. for the technical explanation of the smart controller. There is a lot that I do not know:rolleyes: and I surely didn't know that the exhaust brake shortened the transmission's life. Maybe it has been a good thing that mine has never worked.

However, early on I gained theunderstanding that the exhaust brake on a stock auto was not good. Maybe that is why my transmission has lasted so long.

The best is yet to come:D :D :D (dtt hehe)

Yes it is still going

Yes, Mr Stakeman it is still going. We a discussing torque converter lock-up percentages and smart controller operation.

We would like for Autolock and whatever the others use to chime in also. If you have questions or whatever, but please, for the sake of the less experienced, leave thebrand bashing and baiting out.

Thank you,

George

I have never brand bashed or baited anyone! I simply asked a few questions about the pictures that were posted. I thought if they posted the pictures they would be willing to answer some questions about them. I am trying to keep this a technical discussion. If you think I am baiting I am sorry. I thought the TDR was a place for technical discussions?

People do take your questions that way. As far as brand bashing I kinda think the rules are wrong, in that, if a compay is doing something wrong and lying to cover-up defective products, humanly speaking, it would appear that everyone would want to know; and to muzzle someone from blowing the whistle is dead wrong.

It would just appear that that would be one of the purposes of this forum, to alert members to potential defects, blah, blah without :-{} .

If you know something bad about DTT leter rip. And in the same grain, if you start having problems with your ATS set-up, you should be able to post, especially if they are not resolved.

But, questions about peoples past employment has nothing to do with the question at hand.

By the way, how does ATS address the E-Brake and torque converter lock up? Do they have something like the Autoloc and Smart Controller?

Thank You for your reply

George

How can my questions be taken as baiting? I was just trying to understand the circumstances that were involved with the input shaft breakage.

If I ever have a problem with my ATS transmission I will let the TDR know. I do not foresee any problems in the near future.

Yes they do use a controller for the clutch for e-brake usage.

YOUR QUESTIONS

When I tee tee I go to the proper room; not with the bears or anywhere else. So it won't be here. Bill K. does not need anyone to defend him,JMO. However, I have re-read most of this thread, and as a "general consumer", Bill answered your questions; some before you asked. You want to know what the HP of the truck that broke the input shaft? Crap man, look at Stefans sig. info, huh?

I hope Stefans doghouse does not smell like this thread:D :D
