), they do not appear to mount to the body mount bolts as there is not horizontal mount. This is how I thought ours would mount.



If they only use the body mount bolts I will be dissapointed as I personally do not feel this is a sturdy way to mount such a heavy board and then support the weight of a person. I thought they were more stout than that. Maybe the 3rd Gens are built a little better in this area than the 2nd Gens?. Hopefully the boards for the 2nd Gens mount differently?

I was under that same impression that they bolt to the side of the frame. They do seem pretty solid though.



I have one side mounted but plan to put a nut and washer on the small studs first, then the hanger, then another washer and nut. I'm concerned the way it hangs on the stud, it would be the cause of vibration and wear.



My arms need a rest (they ARE heavy) and it's getting dark. Probably do the other side in the morning.

Yes, they are heavy. They mount using the cab to frame bolts, 2 of them, and a pair of brackets to the rocker panels. No drilling, no hassle lining them up, and I got on the back end, near the rear tire and bounced on them. I got a little bit of movement, springiness, but not enough I could tell myself, some one watching them saw it, a little. More of the truck was bouncing on the shocks, so I couldn't tell it. Felt real sturdy to me. I got on them between the mounts, and they didn't give a bit, and I am at 200lbs. Really happy with them. Installation was a breeze, other than the weight. Be careful that you don't drop one on yourself while you are under them lining the bolts up. I used a floor jack and centered it, so I could move them around a bit to line things up. This was so easy, I would do it for someone else, for a cold one. Each board would take about as long as it would take you to drink one cold one. They are that easy.

On the other hand, this will allow me to hear the experiences that you all have had and learn some new tricks... I'm not sure I know quite what you are talking about with your installation, but



I think I get what you are trying to say.....



By creating a space with a nut and washer before adding the running board,it would seem like you are creating more opportunity to bend the bolt and create more vibration/flextion rather than having the board right up against the cap mount bracket of the frame. . (Based on pictures from SilentDave, thanks Dave!).....



Any opinions..... (Might as well make the best of my having to wait!!)

Passenger side is on. It seems to hang slightly lower than the driver side so I might shim that one down slightly so there's no rattle/interference on the body.

Mine arrived the other day. To my relief the 2nd gen boards do not mount to the body mount bolts as the 3rd gen boards do.



I am contemplating having them coated with Line-X before the install. I didn't think it was going to be a big deal at first, but I think the stones are going to beat the crap out of them and living in the salt belt I think they will rust quickly.

Didn't ToughCountry offer Line-X as an option? What did that want to charge for the Line-X vers having it done after the fact?

I think Line-X was an option from Tough Country. I didn't really think I needed it, but after getting the boards here and realizing the powdercoat is not going to stand up I decided I need to protect them with something.



I don't know what TC charges for Line-X, maybe I should have had them do it? I did some calling around here and one guy wanted $200, I thought that was a little steep. I found another shop that quoted me $100 which I think is reasonable and he does decent work as a few friends had their liners sprayed on there.

Thanks for the reply Cooker. I have contacted TC about getting some running boards with Line-x but haven't heard back from them yet. Been a week now. Maybe I should call them ver the e-mail that I sent.

Do these come in "shiny"? I like chrome stainless steel.

Tough Country doesn't offer chrome, but doesn't mean you couldn't have them chromed else where. Not sure what that would cost you.

Finally got 'em!!!!!

First off let me thank KS_Cummins and Bighammer for putting this together. They are awesome running boards.



Now, some questions...



1. I have a second gen and they running boards for the second gen only have two brackets per side and what appears to be only 4 bolts. Is this correct??



2. Does anyone have pics from a 2nd gen install? What bolt holes did ya use on the frame?? Is it obvious when I put them up there?



3. Do I need to remove the ebrake cable to bolt them to the frame??
