To the heavy haulers...what guages?

Quick RV furnace question

I am new CTD owner and new to hauling RVs. I owned an '06 F-150 (4. 6L) that everyone told me could haul my 5000 lb travel trailer. Well, it could, but not comfortably and only got 6. 5 mpg. Traded the F-150 for an '07. 5 2500 (6. 7L). Love it! My question is: Is the tow/haul mode on my 6 speed auto transmission enough or do I need to drop it down a gear and tow in 5th gear? Everyone told me to turn off the OD on the Ford or I will tear up the transmission. I only used 3 gears. This 6 gear transmission thing has me a bit confused...

Tow haul is all you need as 5000 is not much weight. On long downhills you may want to gear down to give the exht brake more rpm to work with

Thanks for the reply. Just got TRD issue 58 and I was skimming through it and saw an article on the transmissions that I will have to read. But from the initial glance at the article, I think you hit the nail on the head. Thanks again!
