Okay, I may as well join the “Fray”.
Here’s my take...
I live in a “hilly” part of the country. I rarely tow my 15,300 lb 5th wheel and run empty most of the time. I still typically run TH and EB as soon as I get into my truck and start it.
I love the EB in these trucks. It’s the best EB of the “Big 3” trucks. I love that I can come down off a mountain and not touch my brakes almost all the way down. That’s my love for EB with TH other than the fact that the added bonus is it saves your service brakes and I’ve heard helps keep your turbo clean and helps the truck warm up faster in lower temps.
If for some reason I haven’t activated TH, I instantly recognize it as soon as I start into a grade. Revs are too low and I notice lugging and low RPM right away. Hit the TH button and instantly brings my revs up about 5 RPM by downshifting into higher gear. Truck is much happier pulling a grade in this mode. No lugging at all. Always finds the right gear for climbing.
These things mean more to me than fuel economy and lugging my truck around.
Just one man’s take and opinion.
