I'm looking to get feedback to see if anyone has tried those little mirror extensions for towing from Geno's Garage. . they are pretty reasonably priced at $45.

I'm going to have to get something, and I don't really want to spend $400 on "super-duper" mirrors...

Turbo:

I have a pair of the slide on mirrors from Geno's and they are worth the money. They do cut vibration to a minimum and they mount better than any other brand of the same design. Like you, I didn't want to spend the big bucks. No regrets.

I bought a set from GENO'S They come with a set of foam pads I put them on it seemed to tighten them up nice and snug I haven't had them out in the wind yet but they seem like a pretty good product Darryl

They work pretty good. It's like the catalog description say's - they will vibrate a little bit, but not as much as others. Well worth the money, IMO.

I recently got some tow mirrors clamp-ons from Barksdale engineering (advertised in truck accessory issue of trailer life recently). These are well made, clamp onto existing mouse ears and are very solid. About twice the price at Genos. I can't compare with Genos mirrors since I have not tried them.

I have the Geno's mirrors, and overall, they work fine and are worth the $. They do vibrate at higher speeds, but it is not unbearable. Plus, they match the look and contour of the stock mirrors quite nicely.

Well, just to update;

I bought the mirrors, although not from Geno's garage, since they were cheaper up here at the store in Canada, since I don't have to pay exchange, delivery, customs etc etc.

I installed them at the dealership to tow my 5er home. They work quite well actually. I was surprised. They take a little time to set the mirror right so I can see properly, but vibration was really minimal.

So far, I like 'em.

Thanks for all of the input you guys gave me... it sealed the deal for me.

Cheers,

Shawn

Do the mirrors from Geno's have to stay on all the time or are they removable? I need a set too, but I don't want them on all the time, only when I am towing. #ad

Sparky10,

the mirrors are held on with a little threaded rod and nut (both plastic). You can install them and remove them in literally about 1 minute each or less. They are very convenient.

I also have the same style Geno's sells only got them at Walmart. After I first installed them I noticed the vibration at speed, which really wasn't too bad. I wedged a amall piece of rubber between the outside edge of the mirror and the plastic housing to help keep the mirror from vibrating. They now are rock steady, and it also helps hold the mirror adjustment if you take them on and off a lot.

Has anyone noticed any marks left on the truck mirrors from repeatedly installing/removing the tow mirrors? Thanks

Roycrown:
I use the slide on mirrors on my 91 with the stock chrome mirrors. Putting them on and off has left rub marks on the chrome that won't polish all the way out. it is not real bad but the marks are there. Some of the other posts suggested using foam or rubber in between the slide on's. I think I will try that.

I just purchased the mirrors from Geno's. I have the correct part number according to the box, but the fit has me concerned. The mirror itself fits well and it appears secure.

I am not happy with the fit of the clamp. There is a small hook that grabs the edge of the existing mirror and has a threaded end for attaching to the tow mirror. This part is made of plastic and must be bent about 20 degrees to fit into the hole on the tow mirror. Then, the plastic knob used to secure the clamp to the tow mirror must be forced into place. The fit is poor at best, and I can't see how the manufacturer could possibly be happy with the end product. Either I have the wrong part, or the fit is unacceptable.

Plastic threads on a poor fitting clamp?... a recipe for cross-threading and failure.

Andy

Andy;

My securing brackets have the same crappy fit. You are right, it isn't the best.

Here is what I do now to combat the potential of crossthreading; I thread the little nut on about 2 turns onto the shaft BEFORE placing the clamp onto the mirror. I then push the little curvy piece (the little clip) around onto the mirror, and THEN tighten the nut.

This way it completely eliminates cross threading. Not perfect solution, but it works.

Funny thing is, my passenger one fits MUCH better . . hmmmmmm...

As another alternative, check out; www.ktsales.com

I just installed their D-1 mirrors on my y2k 3500 and have to admit their the best thing I've tried... .

Very solid mount to the existing mirrors and are easily removed when not needed.

Check out their web site for pictures of the products. obtw, the D-1s are $75

To answer Ben's question (next post), I've had them up to 65 mph on the freeway and they do shake a little. NOTE: the single mounting arm is 1/2" X 3/4" Solid aluminum square stock (black powder coated).

I REALLY feel sorry for the 1st person that runs into these things at a parking lot!!!!! I believe the mirrors will win... .

My question would be about the D-1 mirrors - are they "solid" at 75+ in a strong head wind? Doesnt look like they wouldnt vibrate at those speeds due to the single support arm holding them.

\\BF//
(true they are a little pricy but if they avoid some of the above listed problems, they could be worth every penny. )

Geno's mirrors are a step above not having any mirrors at all. Sorry, but for anything other than real occasional use, they suck.

Try looking at http://www.hensleymfg.com/ and the McKesh mirrors.

Easy-on/off, no vibration, variable extension, with convex option, $130/pair.
