Tow Mirrors.....opinions please.

I have had it with these good for almost nothing clip on tow mirrors. Need comments on the "Lucernex"(spelling probably wrong). Also I think I saw somewhere that Power Vision was bringing out a new mirror. I know I do not want the Donkey Ears that DC has. Need to retain the power adjust and heated option. Thanx... ... .....

I have the Lucerix X-Mounts on my truck and they are great for towing. Three (minor) complaints - 1. Mine have a bit of vibration that I'm working with the factory to cure. Not sure if it's more than my factory mirrors but it's too much for $425 mirrors. 2. The bottom of the mirrors are below the bottom of the window and when in the inboard position the botton of the passenger mirror is cut off. 3. When extended the mirrors move towards the rear of the truck - if my wife is holding onto the grab handle above the passenger door her elbow blocks the majority of the mirror. If the mirrors extended more straight out (Powervisions extend straight out, I think) from the truck this problem wouldn't exist.



If I can solve the vibration problem - fix or replace - then I'll give the Lucerix mirrors a big thumbs up.

My complaint with the Lucerix mirrors is that the passenger side mirror does not show the side of the 5th wheel when towing. The housing needs to be pushed out about 1/16 - 1/8th inch and the mirror needs to be turned in to compensate. Either that or I sit closer to the wheel with my legs around my ears!! I have the fish eyes which help. They are great mirrors for checking lanes and I wouldn't be without them. There are Powervision mirrors which are spendy and I think they extend further out than the Lucerix which extend 4 1/2"

Mirrors

I've got over 100,000 miles on my '99 with Powervision mirrors.

They ar vibration free, and work as advertised. Just wish I had the heaters that weren't available in '99.



Never had a problem with them I didn't cause. Backed in to the garage door frame two weeks after I got them, Called powervision that afternoon, and had repair parts FedEx next AM.



Good people to deal with!

Does any one know how much the PowerVision mirrors are? I had a local RV dealer tell me they wanted $1,000 installed. Is that a good price or should I look somewhere else?

I had the X-mounts on my truck. I sent them back for 3 problems. Lucerix only offered to fix 1. I now have the flip up factory mirrors which vibrate about the same as the X-mounts did.



I would try the Powervision next, I have never heard anything bad about their product or their service. I have had bad luck with both product AND service with Lucerix X-mounts.

Thanx for the comments guys. Powervision is supposed to be working on a new mirror that is verticle rather than horizontal. Anyone heard of any rumors??

I've got the heated Power Vision's and they work great. I split the wiring with 2 switches so I can control each mirror independently. The power vision's are $469 according to the web-site

Powervision just set me up as a dealer and my intial set is on the way... ... ... ... Thanx for the help. Someone has asked me what kind of clip-on mirrors I have been using. They are the ones from Yuma, Az. and I think they are the best for a clip on. When my PVs are installed, they(clip ons) will be for sale for 1/2 price.

Power Vision Install

D: It is a project to install them, but the instructions are very good.



Figure on about 4 hours for complete install( 6 if there is any beer close by 24 if there is scotch in the cabinet). Everything you need is in the kit except the plastic clips you will break removing the door panels. I used a Dremmel tool to cut the square hole for the new in/out switch.

Hardest part is fishing wires thru the loom from the door post to the door.



They have been trouble free except plan on using long wire ties to keep bellows in place after about 30,000. Now have over

100k miles on them.



I lube them with spray about every other oil change.

I guess it will take about 6 hour then because there's no way I can do a job like that with out a few cold one. Have to go buy one of those door trim removers before I start too.

Vibrating Lucerixs...

My Lucerix mirrors had a very slight vibration at highway speeds when first installed...



So I figured, what the heck, and pulled the top of the door panel down again and got another 1/2 turn on the mounting nuts. Actually got a little more on some of them, seems the mirror 'settles in' on the door after a bit.



Now they are rock solid.



Also, I've got no problem seeing in tight with mine- I can turn them in and down and see right what the truck wheels are running over.



Gotta love those power adjust and heated tow mirrors!

Power mirrors would be nice, but I'm too cheap to pay for them and settled for McKesh Mirrors and are very satisfied.

the vibration in mine doesn't appear to be in the housing - at least I can't feel any vibration with my fingertips. It seems like the vibration is in the glass mounting. The glass on my factory mirrors takes a bit more effort to deflect and I don't recall them vibrating at all.

I have an 2001 with the mule ear mirrors. I guess they are ok for seeing out the rear. Maybe a little wider than the old style. The wide angle spot built in the corner is good. But it seems to me they vibrate a little more than the old style. I had a 99 with the old stainless steel style. Had practically the same mirror on 98 and 95 chevys. If the new ones give trouble that's probably what I will go to. No power or heat but the toughest type going.

I tow 90% of the time so I don't ever fold them in. Just another opinion. Good luck.

I have the 3pt's on my 97'. I am assuming that's what you mean by stainless steel. When I replaced my mirror heads, I got new ones from AWDirect that are heated. This will be the first winter for them. Only thing is the 4" angle they sell to mount them brings them in slightly so it's hard to site down the side of the rig.

That's the ones I had. A heated option would make those nice. The new style look good I guess, and pretty handy to fold in but for hanging in there for a lot of miles I think I prefer the 3pt. Tougher is better.

PowerVisions installed today. Took my tech less than 2 hours and these were the first he had installed. They my fall off on the way home... ..... but so far... ... . so good. I think I am going to like them. Probably have to fold one side in to get the truck in the garage. Thanx for all the replies!!!!!!!!!
