5th wheel vs gooseneck?

Trailer Question

OK- I'm probably the loner here, but I just love my flip to tow mirrors that I got for mine. They are virtually vibration free, heavy duty, look good, the view is excellent, and... ... ... . OK SO THEY AREN'T POWER. That's what the passenger's for:D :D . PLus they're a lot cheaper than the powervision or x mount. Just my 17 cents worth!

I first saw the Lucernix (sp?) mirrors last week when I met Frank Z in Washoe Valley, NV. They're very interesting!!! He let me drive his truck so I could see what they're like.

First: I saw no discernable vibration, at least not compared to the stock, non-power towing mirrors on my truck. If there was any, it wouldn't have bothered me.

Second: I'm a little concerned about the angle that they sweep backward, as others have pointed out in this thread. I wish they were more perpendicular like my stock mirrors.

Third: I love the large glass area, and I also like that there is no integrated convex mirror. I hate where the convex mirror is on my stock towing mirrors, so it'd be nice to be able to choose my own place.

Fourth: I also think they sit too low, and this is the main reason I've decided to hold off on getting them. I'm hoping the company will make another design that's more vertical and sits higher.

I also hope that Powervision will release their vertical-style soon too. BTW, does anybody know if all the wiring is there in my non-power-mirror-equipped truck so if I bougth the new climate panel with the heated mirror button and the power mirror handle, that I could use heated/power mirrors?

Barry-

What type of clip on towing mirrors do you have? I've been thinking about getting a set since I don't tow often enough yet to justify a full set of power towing mirrors.

Thanks,

Justin

Guys, don't get in a hurry, the fact towing mirrors will be available with heat and elect. adj. very soon, in fact they were supposed to be available last Sept. I've got a set on my 00, have been on since last July. They are real nice, almost vibration free. Now if you hit a chuck hole or something they will wiggle a little, as any mirror will, but I really like them. DON'T ASK ME HOW OR WHERE I GOT THEM!!!! I won't tell! I had the X-mounts before, and liked them as well, but the fact. flip-outs are better, in my opinion. I've kept quiet about these for quite a while, but reading this thread I just had to tell about them.

MABurns:

As I mentioned up a couple of posts, I can adjust the left mirrow by rolling down the window (actually, pushing the down button), and adjusting it by hand. My arms arn't long enough to reach the right one. It takes several itterations of getting out of the truck, adjusting the mirror, getting back in the truck, check mirror position, ... to get it right. Of course, every time you flip the mirrors from the normal position to the towing position, you have to do it all over again. If you never flip the mirrors back and forth, then it's not too big of a deal. I still really like the Dodge towing mirrors. I'd just like to have power adjust on the right side.

Factory heated/power flipouts....

Had a look at the local Dodge dealer a couple of weeks ago at the new 1500's-they offer the trailer-tow mirrors with heat and power. The actual mirror head is identical to the 2500/3500 ones-but the mounting foot is different for the new trucks. If you had a set of the older ones (could even pick a set up without the glass in them just to get that mounting foot) I'm pretty sure you could swap the foot to the newer ones and VOILA! Heated/power towing mirrors! The only possible fly in the ointment may be connectors-the dealership wouldn't let me pull mirrors off a new truck :D . Can you figure that?

I was planning to do this very thing for my truck-but if they are gonna release a pre-made kit like yogibear said I'll wait for them. Quick trip to the paint shop to color-match to the truck and I'll be good to tow...

I assumed that might be the case, but worded my post poorly. Did not mean to flame at all. Electronic communication has it's shortfalls.

Oh Yogi, thats it just tease us, know I have to wait and see these mirrors. :( Do your mirrors use the same power and heat button as the factory sport mirrors?

What do you guys mean? Trucks didn't have power mirrors in the olden days. You had to row them down by hand:eek: Glad I'm not old enough to remember that. :D

Not really, my first truck was a 82 1/2 ton cheby, no power windows, not as and an AM radio( that didn't last long ) I still have the truck and it has over 400,000 miles on it and starts every time I want to use it, great little truck, same that cheby don't build them like that any more.

Big D

Yes Big D, they came with the backing plate and elect. conn. plugged in and you use the heat switch on dash, and the original adj. knob. I hate to do this to you guys, but wanted you to know about them. Like I said I was told they would be available on the 02 trks. , but you know DC.
