Just curious what settings you guys tow with, best egts and power etc. I'm towing 17K gross with camper. I currently have the comp off or I get hot!! Smarty on #3 only seems to be most I go and stay under 1300*. . Just wondering if I'm hot or just normal?? FYI towing at 70-75 mph @ 2000rpm 1000* flat 1250* hills! THANKS

You are running similar temps as me with the smarty on#2 comp on 2x2. On #4 with comp at 2x2 I run around 100 degrees hotter. I ditched the afe stage 2 for a stage 1 and dropped around 100 degrees while cruising due to the intake tube sitting right on top of the turbo and picking up the radiant heat from the turbo and exhaust housing. This maybe something you may want to look at. My tube actually was starting to melt and distort a bit also.

Yes, I have looked at the AFE tube, it is not melted but the heat has to affect it! Proflow the Comp defuels on all settings 1-5, you can back it down in the submenu! Billvo you are running 155hp inj. I'm running BD 90's, but I was running 155 BD's with my B1 turbo and got hot, but now I have the HTT 62/71/13ss ... . HUM wonder if more fuel will hurt or help spool it better?

More fuel will help the turbo to spool quicker, then you will get hotter EGT quicker too. I've tried a bunch of different Smarty settings. #3 seems to be the best with my setup (stock turbo, 90hp injectors).

You talked about EGT numbers when towing, but what kind of boost #'s are you holding at those temps? My stock turbo is in its efficiency range between 15-25 psi. Below or above that range, EGT can be a problem under load. I'm thinkin' your turbo might be great for haulin' tail with the hammer down, but since you can't haul trailer with the hammer down, your turbo might be too big if you can't keep it in its efficiency range.

Neil, I'm at about 10-12psi cruising under load, and 30-35psi with the hammer down. The HTT 62/71/13ss is a new turbo, but 62's of any make are usually good for towing, anything bigger will have some lag and spool up issues at lower RPM's. I'm still wondering if the 155hp injectors will acually help, because I'm maxing out boost at only 35psi, I should see 40-42psi... . even with the line crimped on the wastegate!! HUUUUMM... what to do... LOL. . Honey, it will tow better if I just buy this other part for the truck... HEHE

If that turbo is anything like my silver 62 with the 74mm housing. It really likes a lot of fuel. I am thinking of sending it in to downgrade to an sps62. If I had a manual transmission and could keep my rpm's up higher while towing it would be perfect or if I had 4. 10's it would be better. If I keep it in drive its ok. It is more geared towards comp than towing but tows good with higher rpm's. I liked it to compete with but am now competing little now and need a better matched turbo for my towing needs now. I think in the future the sps 62 will suit my needs well if I decide to compete a bit again.

I have the Super Stock 62/71 without the stainless housing. I am towing 15k# through WV mountains daily & I can tell you that the turbo does like alot of fuel. I keep egts above 2000rpm & egts don't go over 1200* on a hard pull. I think you would be happy with a set of 3 flow injectors from II. This turbo seems to perform its best with 125hp injectors. Advanced Diesel Technology is having a sale on II injectors. I am running a manual... . you have a automatic. This may be a different ball game.

Well I have the bd 90's in now and have bd 155's on the shelf so I just may call Dave at HTT and see what he says. I did swap out the 3. 54 to 4. 10 and with 35" tires... it's PERFECT!! 73mph @ 2000rpm. . mountains in 3rd gear it's a beast. Just trying to fine tune all the fueling and timing to this turbo... still curious why I'm only hitting 35psi with all the fuel I can dump... I've tried all Comp/Smarty settings I could imagine...

pinch off the wastegate hose or put a plug in it. Turbo manufacturers like to set the wastegates low to prevent carnage
