I broke (cut, tore, whatever)too many tow straps, so I finally decided to put some cash into a good tow rope. It is a big blue braided rope about the size of my forearm. It's rated to pull 4x4 tractors and about 30 feet long. Got it from a farm store here, and it cost me about $100. I used to use it to pull our medium duty semis around at work when they wouldn't start and the air brakes wouldn't release. (Yeah I know that is hard on tires, but I had to get them to where the wrecker could get to them). I have no doubt it will be the last rope I ever buy.

Talk to Triple A Sling in Grand Rapids, MI. This is where we get all of our straps and lines. They will have anything that you would want.

I use both straps and rope on a regular basis. I have rope that is used by PNM (the power company here) and it has held up awesome. In case you are wondering how I use them, I pull out motorhomes and boats from the sand at the lake. I once broke my 80,000lb rated strap, my dads dodge and 24 foot baja fell into a sink hole hooked together at the bank of the water. I was in my 74 power wagon, and had the boggers on it att he time. We burned up a warn 8274-50 winch, broke the spur gear on a hickey sidewinder 9,000lb winch, and my 12K re ramsey wouldnt pull it snatch blocked. Finally, I hooked them together with my strap (it was 60 foot long) and backed up bumper to bumper. I hit the end of the strap in second gear (auto). After about the third jerk, the strap broke, caved in the tailgate, and would have came through the back window but my jet skii was in the bed. it saved me.

I reccomend either the strap or the rope. If the strap is taken care of (ie, no cuts, abrasions, weathering, etc) it will work great. I have used a strap meant for crane service, and it doesnt work as well. there is no strretch to it.

I get my straps now from JCWhitney. they have a good price, and they are Keepers.
