5th wheel and 2nd gen towing

fifth wheel hitch on flat bed

Anyone doing any towing and using a "Throttle Response Controller", such as a Pedal Commander? I am using one in my 2022, towing a 5th wheel. I normally keep it on stock or city mode.

Wanted to see if anyone has any experience with the more aggressive settings...better, worse, same MPG etc.? Have not used that much myself.

Since you have one, why would you not do your own experimenting? I would. Do you have an HO or SO?

I would like to try one, but not yet. Two of my sons want to buy me one but I hold them off. They both swear by them.

I have found that towing, my 1st gear has plenty of power off the line. If I get too aggressive in 1st, I can feel the drivetrain complaining. I wait until 2nd to really get after it.

What I don't like about my truck, is, if I need more power in 3rd and give it some, it will just unlock rather than down shift to 2nd lock.

Pedal commander probably won't fix that tho.

Empty, hard acceleration in 1st, will throw my crates and tool boxes to the tail gate, so I had to build a wood rack to hold them in place.

Don't say anything about the gooseneck hitch signature marks on my tool box:D

@NIsaacs, I have some of those! Both on the back and a couple 5TH wheel on top for some very uneven ground backing a trailer into a spot. Just goes with towing and using your truck as a truck! Like the "rack" to keep things under control. Do similar with straps through the handles. I've looked at those also, but think I would rather have the 4-low lock out for front axle. Would rather have the low end grunt power to move things around easier the fighting wheel hop!

The pedal commander only changes the TPS signal, so there isn’t any ability for it to improve mileage. The engine still maintains its stock parameters.

The pedal commander does have eco mode, but increasing mileage that was is just like driving with a soft foot. It may help while accelerating, but once up to speed it does nothing.

"Supposedly" PC is suppose to "improve" mileage by getting up to cruising speed faster. But, if I read the instructions correctly, PC does nothing while using the cruise control. Which I use 90% of the time.

It takes more fuel to accelerate faster, so it’s likely a wash if anything.

No, it’s only effecting the pedal input so CC isn’t affected. Even then once steady state the throttle moves very little.
