Off Roading towing points

Where do you guys put the tow strap on the front if you have the stock bumper. I got some chain and put a hook on both ends and found some holes in the front crossmember, but i'm not sure if that spot is strong enough. Thanks

not strong enough is an understatment. i have almost pulled the bolt head & washer through the hole in the back & the hook has pushed my bumper up in the middle. either get an aftermarket bumper, or the mopar tow hook kit.

When I had a stock bumper I put a front hitch on the truck and used a clevis in the hitch.

I agree with Steve. The front hitch is a great way to go. Either do that or get the factory tow hook package (Dodge dealers do have a tow hook package for 2nd gen trucks, just not worth the $ IMO). As for me, since I don't have tow hooks or a front hitch, I only hook on to the rear hitch.

I have a hidden hitch front receiver and Mopar tow hooks. I have a Ute bumper on order (with an integral front receiver) so I will not need the front receiver anymore. I hope that the tow hooks will work with the bumper or I will be looking to unload both.

I just installed a Hidden Hitch front hitch ($99 + delivery from JC Whitney). The hitch install instructions I downloaded from the Hidden Hitch Web site showed the sway bar mounting point as being the mounting points for the hitch and I figured from this that I could keep my MOPAR tow hooks. The hitch I actually received uses the same mounting points as the MOPAR hooks and I had to remove them.



The Hidden Hitch has two tow rings welded to it and is rated for 9000 pounds pull, so the only real problem I have is the two empty holes from the MOPAR hooks in the air dam.

I also purchased a Hidden Hitch Front receiver from JC Whitney. It will work with the Mopar tow hooks. I have digital photos. But I have not been able to ever post a photo successfully, so if you give me an e-mail address I will send you them.
