Curious what everyone with a G56 and a Smarty JR towing is running.

I finally got my gauges installed last week, and couldn't resist going to SW2 (what is indicated as TOWING) Timing #2 (which I believe is highest timing. . kinda confusing) and trying it out unloaded. WOW big difference! I only tow 7500 lbs or less, so not heavy but Im a little worried that the 60 hp bump is marginal for the stock clutch.

I shift slow and let the clutch grab, and don't race the truck at all. Just wondering what others are running towing campers with Smarty JRs and stock drivetrain and tire diameter. Am I correct in assuming the G56 is not the weak link under normal conditions towing its the DM flywheel and clutch I need to be watchful of? Im easy on my stuff, I just felt with the stock programming (SW0) I was hitting a wall power wise on hills... even after downshifting. .

My EGTS seem to be lower since going to SW2 as well...

Tell me about the smarty and your truck, Have you removed any of the emmissions stuff? Has the smarty tripped any codes? How's your MPG's running it? I've got a 2012 and hate the poor MPG's it seems to me that if it had more timing advance it would make less soot and not need to re-gen as often...

Cant speak for the smarty, but my H&S on the tow setting (next level above stock) will slip the clutch. Not only when towing but if not careful when passing on two lane roads.

ED, my truck is completely deleted with a GDP intake installed and up until a couple days ago with a Smarty JR set on SW0 and Stock timing... now Ive stepped up to SW2 and TM2 to see what it was like. No codes whatsoever in either configuration, Im running Smarty JR file K designation.

MPGs once deleted increased 4 mpg across the board, as far as timing advance I haven't calcd mileage since bumping it up recently so I cant say. Truck runs great, I highly recommend doing it.

Hummin, do you think the rest of the stock drivetrain is fine for modest raises in power level (40,60) with an aftermarket clutch under normal towing, daily driving? (Non racing, etc. . )

I ran a Smarty Jr for a while and I have an S67 now. My truck is bone stock and I gained an avg 1mpg NOT deleted. The main benefit I sought was turning off the EGR completely by software. I never saw any codes, but any power level over stock would cause a surge or huffing on high throttle at lower rpm. I haven't had the intake apart to see if it's cleaner than anticipated, but I do like the better response from the skinny pedal. The Cali roadside emissions keeps me from deleting until I can find a reasonably priced stock DPF/NOX section to hollow out. Also, the ability to correct my speedo is nice.

I believe the rest of the drivetrain is just fine. Driving styles excluded of course. Lol. From what ive read its more likely the dmf slipping rather than the clutch itself, but either way there's slippage. I love the increase in mileage and less cruddy oil.

Agreed Hummin, I couldn't believe the oil being so black at 1500 miles... and I thought my old 7. 3 powerstroke was bad! :) Oil level is also staying where it should be now (where I left it!) ha

Does it go it to the re-gen cycle as often as before you installed the Smarty program? My truck will show awesome MPG's until it goes into re-gen. once in re-gen it will stay in re-gen for about 20-40 min of driving time and that just kills any MPG's. I want to keep my truck as stock as much as I can as we have the same emmissions testing as Cal here in Ny and thanks to the Gov it's only gonna get worse as time goes on.

Yeah, I know what you mean. With the Smarty w/ ME software you don't have any regens. They are turned off, but to keep from plugging off the exhaust equipment it has to be removed... . the standard Smarty software retains exhaust equipment and regens. Hey ED how do you like your SpynTec kit? I am thinking about getting on in the future, I would really like 2wd low. How much mileage did you pick up by not spinning the front end all the time?
