Help!!!

I Have A 1999 3500 4x4 And I Would Like To Know How To Lower The Truck To Get More Clearance Between The Bed And The Front Of The 5th Wheel.

Is There Anyone Who Makes Shorter Blocks For The Rear Axle ?

Any Info Would Help

I'm not sure about 2nd gen, but on the 3rd gen there are 2 spacers under the springs that you can remove to lower the truck by about 1 1/4". You can also flip the axles on the 5er, if they are not already and there is some adjustment on the 5er hitch. One other method is to get larger diameter. trailer tires.

Hi Davidson

If you do a search in the towing hauling section you can see that I had just the set you're asking about. Dodge makes a set that will cost atleast 500 bucks. Or you can do as I did and take your truck to a spring shop and have them remove your blocks, cut off your bumpstop, cut the factory block in half, re-weld bumpstop, and bend up some new U-bolts and reassemble everything. Mine was less than $100. 00 out the door and I didn't have to turn a wrench.

After buying our current '02 - had a '91 previously - we ended up moving the 5er spring mounts from the top of the axle to the bottom - gained about 5 inches of bed clearance. A good move if you have that option...

Gary, if you had read post 2, I had already told him that.

Have A 1996 4x4 , Took blocks out and milled off 1. 5 in. Redrilled center bolt hole, threader U bolts another 1. 5 in. . It works A lot better. And it was free.

when i bought my 02 its rear was way up in the air. a 5 1/4" block was there so we put in a 2" block instead. that made the truck level. but my truck was still too high. my trailer axels were straight and the springs were already on top of the axel so help there. i went to two rv repair places and they wanted $850 to $1200 to extend the hangers on my springs. I had already broke a hanger and cosidered it a weak area i didnt want them longer with mnore leverage to break. i went to an off road truck place and asked them if they could put a 2" block on my trailer. they said yes we do it to trucks all the time. the rv shop would not do it. they took a 2" block of steel and drilled and taped it top and bottom. they took out the pin that holds the leaf spring together and put a bolt through into the block. they put a shorter bolt in the bottom to fit into the hole in the perch on top the axel to keep it from moving. new u-bolts and it is rock solid. i have towed twice short trips and all was good. it cost $383. hope this clear. robert
