My wife and I are thinking about selling the motorhome and buying a fifthwheel toy hauler, no less than 30'. Can someone point me to some websites for well made toy haulers. We have Harleys we would put in them.

Thanks!

Robin

The neatest of all the them is the sky deck toy hauler, it has a deck on top. I think the site is skydeck.com or skydeckrv.com. Fleetwood has a few available too (fleetwood or fleetwoodrv.com). The weekend warriors are nice models also, I think a little more costly though. I have also looked at the Fury, Vortex and a few others. they are all nice units to have. I think there is a site called toyhaulermagazine.com. It is informative.

raptor by keystone is a very nice unit friend of mine has one triple axle, gen, slideout, the works and a lot of room

Check out anything made by Forest River. We had an 02 and only had 1 very very minor problem. So far with our 04 Weekend Warrior I've had over 30 discrepancies with it. Warrior has the common-lock on name recognition and maybe when they started out they were the cat's meow but they have big quality control problems now. Kinda like most folks still would think of Cadillac as a gold-standard for cars long long after they started making poor quality autos.

I'm not just slaging on warrior because of my issues with mine but rather because I saw things at the plant that opened my eyes (in a bad way) and also a lot of folks are having the exact same problems even extending through many model years.

If I can toss being PC aside and be blunt for a minute my honest to goodness recommendation for you is to stay away from anything made in a border state (i. e. southern border). Look for something made in Indiana, Montana etc.

Good Luck

Mtngoat, when you have several hours of spare time, go here: http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/listings/forum/13516802.cfm and read for days. If you register with this site (for free), just like on the TDR, it's a great resource for information. And the people over there, for the most part, are friendly, helpful folks. Don't know where you live; however, if you are able to attend an RV show, you will be able to see just what is out there. Floorplans tend to be pretty standard, just like with motorhomes, travel trailers and 5th wheels.

One of the main considerations when looking into haulers is whether you want a separate garage or open bay. With a 30' TH, you will be limited on floorplans that have garages. If you go up a few feet in length, the choices are greatly increased. Other considerations have to do with what you will be hauling. Two HD's should not be a problem with whatever you decide on. Then, of course, there's the money issue. If you're looking new, expect to spend well over $25K for what you're looking for.

You're going to get varied opinions, just like you do on this site and any other that compares different makes and models. Bottom line, to each his own.

Good luck and keep us posted.

At the northwood site posted above, http://www.northwoodmfg.com/desert-fox.htm ..... for the Desert fox trailers, I have the 28K TT and it is an integrated garage but now they have introduced the 38K 5th wheel where there is like a 28ft regular 5th wheel trailer with a 10ft garage that is separated by a wall.

Northwood makes the Nash, desert fox, and Arctic fox. They have a facility in Le Grande Or.

I have had my 28K for over a year now and there is no problem with them at all. Mine has a 4K gen with a 30 gal gas tank for the gen and a fueling station for the "toys".

I added 3 solar panels which mine was pre-wired for it, and used 2, 6 volt golf-cart batteries for longer life.

Heres my 28' TT Toyhauler

No complaints on my 04 Warrior. As a matter of fact we looked at many other brands and found the Warrior to be better built than most others.

what is it construction wise that makes you feel that WW is better built than most others, please.

JADOCA,

First let me say that all rvs have some cheap stuff in them. We all know the builders are trying to keep the weight down, so alota light weight plasic and cheap stuff goes into them. My wife and I went to tons of rv shows and dealers before we bought. One person on this thread made a comment about the toy hauler that had the roof top sun deck. We saw that one and it was a very nice unit. It was also very expensive. We were in the lower to mid range budget so about 40k was all we could afford. We also haul a sand rail so the 10 foot partitioned garage units were too small in the cargo area, although we liked the idea.

What we felt were the Warriors hi points were that other units had walls inside that were so thin you could push your hand against the wall and flex it. The Warrior wall seemed firm. With its triple axle the Warrior can haul more than most tandems can. A 5' 11" person can stand up in the front bedroom. The cabinets seemed better built than others, fluid capacities and gen sizes were more although I know some other unis are equal. The smooth exterior siding seemed straighter and better built than other brands. A great upgrade on the exterior spreakers and sound system although the interior speakers still stink. With the basement storage and the high ceilings that made room for the loft storage and extra cabinets it seemed to have the most storage of all units.

But dont get me wrong, If the guy that posted his dislike for Warriors had 30 warranty issues, I dont blame him for his dis-satisfaction! I would too. And alot of the reasons to buy one over another is personal preference.

Hope this helps Bill

I don't have a personal axe to grind with warrior although I certainly have many a reason to justify it if I wanted to be that way. Likewise, I could easily hijack this thread with a huge post on negative things I've seen at the plant, on trailer lines, and with the management at ww but that's not necessary and nor prudent for this particular discussion.

The warrior I have is not repeat not my 1st trailer therfore I fully understand that these things are delicate and get hammered on bumpy roads i. e. things will loosen, move, get tweaked etc. I also understand the concept of building light in order to have cargo capacity. They're all like that, warrior's basic design is virtually identical to all the others.

My problem with ww is that (IMO) they're living off their past reputation. To me, they're kind of a "Cadillac" story in the toyhauler business. Cadillac built a very very solid repluation early on which carried on throughout the years even after they started to make crappy vehicles that had terrible quallity problems. In may circles Cadillac still is the defacto Gold Standard for cars even though most in-the-know industry folks would admit other brands far surpass them in qualilty (although they've came back a long way).

I'm not saying warriors are junk, not at all, but what I am saying is that most of the talk-up on these warriors is marketing/sales hype coupled with their reputation from the early days. We really really like they floor plan and accouterments of our warrior. The storage is great as well.

My point is for folks to be informed (not fooled) into thinking ww is something above and beyond the others. In my personal experience and after talking with many many other ww owners (both in-person and at the dunes) and on other RV forum boards is that I'm confident they're no better (or worse) than any other manufacturor. Decide if they're look, price, and layout is what you're after and then buy; just don't buy a ww because they're perceived to be so much better than anything else. I challenge anyone that thinks that to go to Perris, CA (their plants) and look around and take in the sights. If you can see anything there that screams quality, efficiency, and/or skilled workforce I'd be suprised.

Again, my beef with ww is not about my personal trailer, it's about across-the-board negatives that many folks experience year after model year, and about things I saw at the plant that were not positives in regard to their approach.

p. s. My warrior cost double what I paid for my 02 Forest River and has had orders of magnitude more design & quality issues than our Forest River trailer (only had 1).
