Thoughts on Claimed Fuel Mileage on this RV

Bighorn RV

I spend the money on a trailer for a few reasons. 1. I bought this truck to tow with. 2. I don't want another vehicle to maintain, register, insure, emissions test, etc... 3. I want to be able to park my trailer and drive my vehicle around. I do not want a dingy vehicle behind a MH. (See reason 2 for info. ) 4. If I buy a 30 foot RV I don't want to give up 6-10 feet of that for the cab/engine/passenger compartment. 5. I really don't like motorhomes. 6. I can't afford one.

jphaight,

Yep I was. On the 7th or 8th If Im not mistaken. . . Gettin' supplies for the trip back home. . Had the trailer at the KOA near west Glacier

There are other options to RV's out there that won't break the bank if you buy used. Here's one:

Featherlite has a good reputation from what I've heard, but the interiors of their units leave a lot to be desired compared to a typical RV. Here's a link to their SURV page:

Pace American makes Living quarters trailers along with ATC and others.

Here's my idea of the ultimate toy hauler>>>>>>

Then have the interior done by this company:

Welcome to Bunkhouseconversion.com

This would be one HEAVY trailer and my current SRW would not be the best truck to haul it with, but I can dream can't I?

I dont understand why people spend the money on 5vers. They are ALL junk, ok not ALL but 98% are. * I like the idea of turning a trailer into a house and not a house into a trailer. Optima builds one hell of a trailer, or this if you have more money then you...

Now how many TDR members can afford a rig like that, let alone the diesel to haul it? I don't agree that 98% of all 5er are junk. Get real and keep with the topic.

Reread the post.

Spooled up- you understand what I am saying.

I can only tell you about my 2004 KZ Sportster 37p. I haul my Harley Electra AND enough stuff to spend a year where ever we go and it works just fine for the dog my wife and myself. I have 2 slides (yes I want 3) and aluminium siding to keep it light. I had a 2500 Hemi when I bought it. It is not a palace but then I am not a palace kind of guy so:rolleyes:. We wanted something to use as a base camp to see the beauty of America and this works just fine. Now if I can get diesel below $4. 00 from IN to TX all will be good. :-laf

thanks for the replies, I do like the KZ's. I'm going to have to find a dealer close to see the fuzion in person.

Now if we were talking money no option this is the ultimate to hauler set up for me. That baby would hold more than a few quads/runners with room for a small car and lots of supplies. Yes dreaming is nice...

I had a toy hauler by fleetwood it was a very good trailer. WE took it to AZ 3 years in a roe we camped out in the mountains all the mounts in southern AZ. was on some very bad roads. It did a good gob and did not give us any trouble. It pulled very good my wife turned her ATV over and got scared so that stoped the fun. WE now have a 38 foot prowler by fleetwood. It is a good one also. The tires was goodyear and no good. ST tires are rated at 65 mph I ran 80 a few times ST tires will not take high speeds. -----GOOD LUCK ON YOUR BY>

Blackbear, you're taking your life in your hands towing an RV at 80 mph with ST tires. There are too many things that can go wrong when towing a 38 foot 5er 80 mph. I won't tow my 27' 5er, with LT tires, any faster then 60 mph.

SLOW DOWN, if you don't value your life, think about your wife and other people's life on the highway.

After more review I think it's definitely between the Inferno and the Fuzion. How much can you expect to negotiate off the MSRP in todays market? On RV.net I see some saying you should be able to negotiate 30-35% off MSRP. Is that how it was before the crunch or what I could expect in todays market? Or should I even expect that much?

Is one manufacturer prone to a higher mark up and thus willing to make bigger discounts? Thanks for the help, never bought an RV before. Lots of vehicles but first RV.

We bought back in April. I started at 35% off, dealers(two dealers, same model) but neither would do a deal at that discount. After walking out of the dealer several times and a lot of head banging, 28% was the best deal I could get. Be sure to verify the dealers list price is the same as the factory list, some of the dealers will really jack the list price.

i just bought a weekend warrior 34 widelite. nice lay out. ive been looking for a trailer for several yrs and fell in love with the floor plan. it does have a few problems from the factory juust tiny little things that im working on geting warntyed. tows very nice lots of room. ive seen top of the line coaches that have had minor prob and ive seen cheper one with the same problems. just my 2 cents. good luck.

and it does help to pit dealers againts each other. i saved close to 7 grand from msrp win i bought mine. started in salt lake bought in so cal.

Keep in mind that you want the manufacturer to still be in business down the road. Several companies are going toes up. I'd check to see how strong each is before buying. This certainly won't guarantee anything, but at least you'll see who's already out of the game.

Last years models..

It is a buyers market right now, look for year end closeouts, 08s, or even 07s at 25% to 35% off. Of course the best buys are used one to two year old models, then you can look at 50% off most models. . Or look to consignment. .

Some people find out they do not like pulling trailers, or fuel cost is too much for them to handle, or just can't handle the rig.

It depends on what dealer you go to. I called almost every Arctic Fox dealer in the Western half of the US. We found a dealer in Idaho that was willing to work with us. We negotiated the price in early September 07, it was ordered and we took delivery of our 08 Arctic Fox in October 07. The bottom line sales price was 27% below MSRP. You should do much better today as the economy is in a downturn. It may take some hard nose negotiation tactics. Just don't tell dealers what other dealers you have talked too. Dealers talk to each other and will use that against you. Tell them you have a better price from another dealer and walk away. If they want your business, they will come after you.

Good luck.

im waiting to find out if weeken warrior is going to out of buiness roumor is they are going too. im sure happy i paid for my aftermarket extended warr. if they do go out.

They did go OUT OF BUSINESS, which was not as much the downturn in the economy as it was too much warranty work. They are poorly rated at 2 to 2. 5 stars.
