Toyo M-55's versus Michelin XPS Tractions

These are both commercial grade tires that several members say are great tires for traction and durability. I am looking at them in the 235/85/16 (E) size. I can get the Michelin XPS Tractions installed for $188 per tire and the Toyo M-55's installed for $178 per tire. Anybody ever own both of these tires and can give me a comparison?
 
I have just put 2 Toyo Open Country A/Ts on the front of my truck. They remind me of the Michelin LTX M/S, close shoulder block spacing. I have about 3000 miles on them in 3 weeks so far. The edge wear seems less than I experienced with BFG A/Ts.

From talking with the tire dealer that sells Toyo's he says that the M-55's are in a league of their own. Said they were the 70K - 80K tires that can handle anything. This is also the impression I got from members that own them. But I also got the same responses from members that owned the Michelin XPS Tractions. Just wondering if anyone had ever owned both tires and could give me a comparison. Probability a real Long shot.
 
Not exactly what you asked but close..

When I was pulling stock trailers for a local dealer, I ran M55s and he ran XPS's. I would get 65 - 70K miles out of mine and he would get 45 - 50K. I have a Dodge putting at least 300 hp to the ground all the time pulling. He had Fords that maybe put 200 to the ground (all stock). I could never talk him into Toyos. I ran 2 sets of M55s on mine as well as several other sets of Goodyears (bad), Dunlop (so so), Yokohama (OK).



XPS tires are all steel construction even side walls. M55s are not. XPS's traction in the winter was so so. M55s was great. We both siped our tires and we both pulled hard. Toyo does make some great all steel tires, just not in 16".



I do not think you will go wrong with either tire.



I sure like the M55s.

I got 80k out of two different sets of XPS tractions. Rotated every 10k, pulling heavy about 65% of the time (30-35k with a 40ft gooseneck).
 
Thanks guys I've done a bunch of research on the tires I feel would be the best for my truck. I think you are right when you say I can't go wrong with either tire. I know that the XPS Tractions are heavier because they are all steel. I think that is a good thing and might also be some what of a disadvantage when it comes to handling. I guess I will end up going with the best deal. I have several months to narrow this down before I buy. I consider this long range planning. One concern I have is that Toyo or Michelin might change the quality of these tires before I buy. I don't think that would happen with the Michelins because much of their quality is the all steel construction. Don't know much about Toyo's business practices?
 
I just got the M-55s and don't have enough mileage to comment, but I like them a great deal so far. I had to order them online as no Toyo dealer in my region stocks the M-55. If you have a stocking dealer I'm guessing you've seen them up close. If not, they have a real aggressive tread, more so than the Toyo website pictures let on. I like that and the reports I heard of outstanding durability. Mine are imprinted with M55f and I was wondering if anyone knows what the lower case 'f' signifies? (They're D-rated 255/85s) Thanks.
