Tire time. Can't afford my first choice right now, Michelin LTXs, so I'm exploring Toyo Open Country in D range for my 2500. Anyone have any experience, good or bad, with these?

Thanks!

Kodiak,

I had Toyo Open Country on my previous truck (F250HD w/ 460 gasser). I had about 10 - 15,000 miles on the tires when I traded in the Ford. They were showing very little wear and seemed to hold up fairly well.

I too am starting the search for tires. I found the Cooper Discoverer AT in LT265-75R-16 load range E (3415 pounds load per tire) for about the same price as the Toyo's ($147 per tire, mounted and balanced) at a local tire place. The Cooper's have a 50,000 mile warranty.

Like you, Michelin's (and Goodyear and Goodrich) are just too much money right now.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies... lookin' good for the Toyos!

I've found some Open Country 265-75-16s for $125 a piece, all-up. This is a stretch better than what else I've found.

Coopers

I don't know about the Toyo tires, but as for the Cooper Discoverer I have 50,000 miles on them and still have a lot of tread left on them, they ride nice also and they are cheap as far as price goes,I got 6 for $468 and I thought that was dirt cheap. .

I think I can get another 20000 miles left on them. Dave

Toyo M55

I have run two sets of the Toyo M55's . Have just under 70K on the second set. They come in a 23/85R16E which is as tall as the 265's. While the tread appears very aggressive (and it preforms very well) it is a very quite road tire.

Ready to put my third set on as soon as first flakes.

Very good tire.

Got them on the truck now, no problem here. They were on when I bought it, don't know how much mileage they have on them but they look fairly new. Truck has 55200 miles on it, I put on 6000 miles since I bought it(3 months ago). Would buy'em again tomorrow,

i have had 3 sets of the toyo m-55 traction with good results. they last a long time in the 235/85 10 ply size. 60,000 miles or more. sidewalls are fair off road, but not as good as bfg. the main reason i dont run them now is because they dont msake them in a 255/85 16 size.

My favorite publication (after the TDR, of course) is Consumer Reports. Beginning on page 61 of the November 2001 issue they rated tires. Although they used a '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee running P225/75R15, they wrote that "you can use (their) overall judgements as a yardstick for other 15- and 16- inch sizes of these models. "

For all-season use, they rated the Toyo M410 highest. It costs $85/tire and has a 50,000 mile treadwear warranty.

For all-terrain use, they preferred the Dayton Timberline A/T. It cost only $55/tire and has a five year unlimited milage treadwear warranty.

The Dayton seems like a good tire for a reasonable price. Personally, my only reservation is their manufacturer: Bridgestone-Firestone.

Michelin LTX

As far as my opinion on the LTX's my 2000 came with them and I cant say im real impressed with them. The milage seems good but I live in snow country and I find myself shifting into four wheel more than I think I should have to, even with 600 lbs. in the back. Ill be shopping for different tires soon and selling mine.

Thanks to all for the info. I had the Toyos (ATs) put on yesterday. They ride and handle well. I think I'm going to like 'em! Thanks.
