I'd really like to hear from someone about the road noise of the Toyo M/T's also. Anyone?

O. K. ,

I am currently running the Goodyear MT/R's on my truck in the 37 inch configuration. If you could consider the sound of a Star Wars star fighter in the original Star Wars movie, That is what my tires sound like. Now take a BFG A/T, It sounds like the ocean in the middle of the night while asleep a mile away. Just a little growling noise in the distance that is bothersome.

Now to describe the Toyo,

It is only as loud as the BFG, but the annoying sound of resonance is all but gone. For a 37/13. 50/17" tire to be as quite as it is... ..... Amazing! Can you hear it, yes. Does it dig at you like the GY? No. I think that if you could tolerate a BFG AT or MT this tire will be a blessing to you. With on road manners tho mimic a straight ribbed tire, and the off road prowess that conquered Baja and looks that are great. This is the right tire for me. I will have no problem dropping $375 for a tire that is way better than anything on the market. Like I said before, I wish I would have listened to Kroeker a long time ago. I just need to know for myself to make up my own mind. I guess that is what makes us individuals and Americans... ... ...

Enjoy,

Greg

The Toyos ARE noiser than my BFG A/Ts on my second gen... but I'm not sure if it's because the second gen is noiser than the third gen. I was a little worried at first about the aggressive appearance=noise of the MT at first, but was pleasantly surprised to find the noise not a factor. Here's an UNBIASED appraisal... per the wife. "Oh, not noisy at all". "The Jeep (2000 XJ with new BFG A/T) was noiser". Yes, if you look at my sig. , you'll see the T-rex stuff, but you won't see my truck jumping over hill and dale in the Kore website. I believe in Kent's products but also am a realist. (No offense Greg).

The other Greg.

PS are we going to see KORE at May Madness the year?

IF you go to www.toyo.com and look at the Off road or light truck tires, check out the Open Country AT. There are a ton of sizes and I am sure you could find one you liked.
Oh I have spent allot of time there hoping a size will pop up. I like the Toyo A/T as you can see from my sig but still no 33" size that will fit the KORE wheel. :(

I spent a little time in a Hemi truck with 35" Toyo MT's and didnt notice any more noise than my BFG TA's, I wasn't really listening for noise at the time, but it certainly wasn't enough to be noticable.

A noise comparison:

My brother in laws 2500 chevy with a 6" fabtech has 315/75/16 toyos.

I have also rode in an 03 Duramax with 315 toyos.

i personally have had BFG A/T (which suck all around in my opinion), BFG M/T's, Goodyear MT/R's, Nitto Terra Grapplers, and lots of more agressive tires (boggers/swampers). I feel that my Nittos are quiter than the BFG A/T. They have an ever so audible whine at about 40mph when next to a concrete barrier with the window down. I cant here them at all over the motor any other time. I would compare the Toyo to the BFG A/T, Big-O A/T (whatever they call it), and Sport Kings. they are quiet, especially compared to a mud tire. Greg is right, they are that good. I had a set of 315's that I sold to my bro-in law for his chev before I even tried them out, and now I wish I would have kept them. I love the Nitto A/T, but it seems as though the Toyos have all the advantages (except maybe wet traction), but not really any disadvantages.

Greg,

No offence taken :-laf You guys are silly..... Oo. It has been my duty to bash, blister, make bleed when necessary, and literally try and destroy anything that Kent has had me test. That would make me anything but biased. I am to find fault or liability in anything produced and suggest changes. So far most of the stuff has passed the "King Boardman Bash Test" There are a few who have been lucky enough to go for a ride in Big Red, diapers not included, and were amazed at what few limits and liabilities there were. I think I try to take an objective approach at whatever I have tested in the past. EZ) Sept, 2002 I was given one. Still on my truck working fine. Torque Dog) Feb, 2003, Bye Bye..... Piers Bomber Lite turbo) Late 2003, still running hard on Diesel Dans truck, If you go back and look at what I test, You will see and unbiased approach and objective report. That is what I base my opinion on. If it sux I say so. After all, I am the KING!!!

Thank You,

Greg

Now that I am off my soapbox, I do want you to know that no offence is taken by me at any time on the TDR. If I do take offence, you will hear about it.

Senior Doubleclutch and King Boardman,

You guys should get together and spin some tires.

As for pictures on our website - since a 300 hp burn out and a 500 hp burn-out look similar, it's hard for a photograph to capture the effects of massive hp. It's easy for a photograph to capture the effects of good suspension. This weekend, Spike's "Xtreme 4x4" has devoted an entire episode to KORE suspension installation, function and testing. They went even farther than photography and actually put a camera inside the fender of the truck and filmed the suspension absorbing bumps - even a little jump. I was impressed by the show's detail - and the off-road part, even though it took place in a field and not the desert, really warmed my dusty heart.

I like photos of KORE trucks in the air.

Let it be known: Anyone who sends me a picture of their KORE-equipped truck with all four wheels off the ground gets a permanent location on the KORE website. Just be careful; you've got to know what you're doing. It's kind of like the expression, "One Martini is not enough, but two is too much. " A certain height/speed combo is fine and won't damage a thing - 2" higher or 5 mph faster and you've either broken something or you're on your head. I respect good, scary driving and will post any photo that demonstrates these skills.

As for the two of you, I'm not sure who owns the scarier truck. I've driven both and I think Greg L's truck raised my fear factor higher than Greg B's truck. Greg B's truck is gnarly, but it's not scary-gnarly like Greg L's truck.

That's why I may or may not attend May Madness - puns intended.

All the horsepower that was flying around Las Vegas was very intimidating. I would have felt more comfortable if they were measuring wheel travel - something both Gregs have. At that time The Beast only ran 309 on the dyno. Next to Greg L's 500+ hp monster, The Beast felt a little, uh, emasculated.

We might be there again, but this time with a trick new South Bend, Double Disc clutch that will permit us to push the horsepower envelope a bit harder. That way I won't be so embarrassed by the Big Dogs and their black smoke!

The celebrated jumping Dodge of... oops. different book. Will be good to see you guys @ MM 05. Consider participating in the seminar. Between the two of you, I'm sure a few nuggets of gold can be gleaned. or silver as the case may be. Racing Dodges off road with Cummins in them is a new chapter in the Dodge book. Tell us about it.

Black truck is staying home this year. New truck gets to go.

I wanted to publicly apologize to Luke for my comment. I was overracting and I think I know now what his point was... . what works for some may not work for others. I respect that. I like my load range E nittos and will never again put anything other than E rated tires on my truck. That works for me... .

However, I am still confused about the manufacture of Toyos and Nittos. There are still those who say they are made by the same company in the same plant and others that say otherwise.
