I just got off the phone with a sales person trying to buy a new hitch.when he told me he recieved a memo from dodge about the trailer brake system in the new dodges. If you try to plug in your trailer brake using the plug under the dash you could cook the computer in the truck.. Seems dodge reversed a wire under the dash. Heads up.Oo.

I found and saved this from Airforums a while back. Maybe this is what he is referring to.

WARNING!! New 2013 Ram Truck - Brake Controller, Aftermarket

From Cequent Performance Products

TECHNICAL BULLETIN: TB13-01

Issue Date: 02/01/13

Installing Electric Brake Controls – 2013 Ram Trucks

Vehicles - 2013 Ram Truck - All

Product Family - Brake Controls -All

The electrical system on the 2013 Ram trucks has changed. Though the brake control connector is the same as the 2010-2012, the wire functions have changed. The terminal that used to be the stop light signal, now has battery voltage, whenever the ignition is in the run position. According to Dodge, it is not possible to install an aftermarket electric trailer brake control into these trucks. Dodge says, that “the 2013 Ram has “Powernet” and utilizes multiplex wiring that is different from any previous design’s, therefore, your aftermarket trailer brake control is not compatible”

At this time, the only aftermarket brake control that can be used on a 2013 Ram truck, is the Tekonsha 90250 Prodigy RF. As soon as more information is available, a revision to this technical bulletin will sent out.

WARNING!!! - Any attempt to install an aftermarket brake control into the vehicle, may cause severe damage to the vehicle’s electrical system or electrical component!

I recently had the Prodigy P3 professionally installed since the ITBM that came with my 2014 3500 didn't work. No wires were cut, but there was an adapter cable for this truck, so maybe the cable swapped the wires from the OEM connector. The P3 works great. No complaints from the EVIC. The EVIC still displays the gauge for trailer braking, but it shows the trailer is never connected.

So far I have been very well satisfied with the factory brake controller in my 2013 2500. I have only used it with one trailer with conventional electric brakes but it is very smooth, Even better that the Jordan i had in the other truck.
There are probably more after market controllers available now as the bulletin I posted has some age on it
