KP, I've been there done that! There are two different schemes for 6 pin connectors. The so called west coast style has the brake on the center pin and the always hot auxillary to the side. The other style reverses this. When you plug your trailer in, the brakes are hooked to the hot auxillary. Plug in your adapter. With a test light find the hot aux. If the center pin is not hot, you have a west coast style brake center pin adapter and you need the other one. And the other way around!
