2000 47RE AUTO trans swapout question

My '97 auto is soon going to die, it's got most of the signs and 160k. I pull a 8000# trailer for work all over the upper midwest and thankfully it made it thru the summer. I'm looking to replace both the trans and tc late fall or early winter. I'd like to know about the pros and cons of ATS, PRO-LOC,DTT and any other companies system that you guys recommend or discourage purchasing. Not looking to start a war here just looking for info from the guys towing with their trucks, high hp or not. (I dynoed at Mike's Custom Truck's in Northwood, ND 260/600, kinda in the middle or less) I've seen all the adds, talked to several vendors and I know you're all "the best. " I want a dependaple transmission and tc bottom line.

I am very happy with my DTT set up and I know alot of others that are very happy too.

Do your homework and do it right the first time.

I looked at the choices available when considering upgrading my auto transmission.

I was impressed with ATS and their Triplelok torque converter, and I went that route.

It has been great and impressive since day one!

Gets the power to the ground and takes whatever I can throw at it. (bye the way, I drive fast and street/drag race on a regular basis)

I like mine too! Very happy. Get the triple disc TC.

I and my Dad both have DTT setups, his does quite a bit of towing,it is a huge improvement over stock. Mine tows some, but plows too,my DTT setup really puts the power to the ground. Since you still have time, call the vendors you are considering, and talk to them, see what they have to recommend, and compare what your getting.

Anyone unsatisfied with their DTT?? Anybody Using PRO-LOC?? I'm currently using a mystery swich and would also like to know how the controllers are different? Better??

Welcome to the website!

Like "jwilliams3", I have the Stage IV ATS TripleLok

transmission. I am very happy with it and regularly

tow trailers with alot of weight. I like the fact

that the transmission is backed by a three year

warranty. You can order their electronic controller

which allows you to set the speed at which the

TC locks up.

If you have Issue #36 of the TDR there is an

excellent article in there that was written by

Bill Swails (aka: EarthRoamer) about the ATS

Transmission.

FYI, here is the ATS Website: www.atsdiesel.com.

Bramage,

The guys must have missed you in there news letter.

The meeting is this weekend Saturday Oct 19th at Mikes custom trucks in Northwood ND.

This would be a great place to find out about different transmission upgrades as I know a few of us are running different products.

The meeting is open to all diesel trucks, no matter what make, so if you know of others that are into diesel bring them along.

bramage,

Check out " local and regional chapters and events " in the forums and then go to " 2nd time around ND, SD, MN, and MB diesel get together " thread.

Thanks for all the reports so far,

Barry

Summary: ram b/isb dodge autotrans isus

Solution:

Thanks for your email, and we're familiar with the TDR - we had the pleasure of hosting a few hundred members for the TDR rally here in Columbus a couple of months ago; some of us got to drive the new Ram 2003 trucks and they were great - incredibly tight and almost like a passenger car.

As for the autotranny, I'm sure none of your comments have escaped Daimler-Chrysler attention; and, if there have been warranty issues, guess who foots the bill and is aware. But you asked the question, so - yes, we use Allison commercial automatic transmissions in Motorhome applications, and they do an excellent job and have a transmission for (almost) every inut torque requirment diesels can muster. We haven't priced one, but imagine you could replace the Ram trans a time or two after warranty runs out, for the price of an aftermarket installation of the Allison.

Dodge is aware of the issues; we understand that they are working on it. We thank you for your interest in Cummins products. I have a question that I hope you can help me and others with. Let me

explain that I am a member of the Turbodiesel Register. This is an

organization that represents owners of Dodges with the 6BT motor. One thing

we have come to realize is that we have a medium service engine but we do

not have medium service transmission. Specifically the Auto offered is very

weak. Is there a list of auto trannys used in the medium service market

which might be used in this application? We realize that it would be

expensive, however people are spending large sums trying to keep the Dodge

auto alive. Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Libertyram,

Could you please let us all know what you find out about medium duty auto trans applications; costs, conversion requirements ect. I would really appreciate such info. Thanks, Dave S.

I have the DTT transmission in my truck. I will go from a 250 foot power brake burnout to hauling a gooseneck trailer(6600lbs) with hay(20000lbs) and truck(7658lbs) across the state. I have had no problems in 30,000 miles. Went to the installer for a service checkup and adjustment. I didn't even have any wear dust in the pan... ... This truck sees 400 to 450 horsepower on a daily basis. Go with DTT and do it right... ... ... AAAAAAAAwwwwwooooooo
