I just wanted some input on Transgo shift kits. I am having it installed tomorrow. What do you think? I know, go all out(ATS, DTT, Suncoast, Goerend), but for me that will come latter. Is there any thing I need to know beforehand? Dos and donts with this kit. Just want some helpful input is all.

to bad I am not in Irons. I would love to help you with the kit. if its like the kits i have done they work good for medium power trucks. you should like the unit.

Transgo

Westfall,

The current Transgo Shift Kits are not designed nor recommended for the 48RE if that is what your truck has. If you have an early 03 with 47 go for it, otherwise I would recommend you wait a while, some new kits for the 48 are under development and will be wort waiting for.

Smoop :)

Well, I have only driven it briefly and my first impressions are good. I didnt go with a real agressive shift. It definately shifts harder. I will let you know the more miles I put on it. By the way I have 106543 miles on the truck and the transmission dude said everything looked pefect inside. I guess changing fluid 3 times paid off.

any mods in the kit to allow faster tc lockup? did you have to grind any tabs off the steel plate? or drill a hole in the body?

Yes to all of the above. I have driven it for about 200 miles now with some city driving. It shifts into 2nd and 3rd faster and much more firmer. Not violent. Torque lockup is much faster, firmer. I can put it into park now and have it circulate. I am happy.

What did the kit cost you? I am interested in doing the same thing. I am not hard on the transmission just looking to firm it up. I am hopeful this will help mileage around town as it will not even lockup unless you get it around 50mph. I am looking to do the install myself. Did you change anything else that was not provided in the Transgo kit?

Thanks, Jeff

It only cost me I beleive $175 installed. As for changing anything else no. It will still shift into lockup aroun 44MPH under light throttle. Heavy throttle it holds it longer and way harder. I have over 5000 miles on it now and to be truthful I am not happy with the day to day aspects. I think partly because I told him I dindnt want it to shift violently so he put the softest springs in. It just feels funny when your not into it heavy. I do know that it is better for my transmission though. I hope anyways.

I had a Transgo kit installed in my '99 with about 50K on the odometer. I was pulling a 14K fifth wheel at the time. It made a real difference in the shifts in my 47RE. I'm at about 115K now, and other than service the transmission she is still running strong. Mostly it just pulls a three horse trailer now so not so much stress on the transmission anymore.

the part # for the kit is tfod-hd2 or tfod-3 for full manual shifts, i put one in my 47re for full manual and like the performance out of it, it has firm shifts and the kit is adjustable for shift and lockup firmness. i bought mine on ebay for about a hundred bucks the tfod-hd2 is about $80

Is this kit for the 48re? What is the part # I have a buddy looking to put one in his 48re.

SK®48RE

NEW

That's what the transgo.com says. I'm curious why more people aren't doing this. Are there any drawbacks to putting one in. Seems pretty simple and straight forward.

What is the deal with "did you have to grind any tabs off the steel plate? or drill a hole in the body?" I'm definately not going to do this myself now, I've got a great transmission guy, I'll let him play with it!

Transgo SK 48RE

Kit is completed. Waiting on some production pieces, should be available within a few weeks. This kit does require some drilling, no grinding. It will make your transmission very happy.

i had my valve body upgraded at Thurston County Transmission in Lacey, Washington - it has parts, pieces and springs from Transgo and Dunrite - likely the prototype to the very kit Transgo is offering now - Larry knows his stuff they listen to what he says and knows -- if you EVER are afforded the opportunity to get to Washington State and by chance are there to get your 48re upgraded, get to TCT!

my transmission doesn't shift hard at all, but has progressive line pressure increase with throttle increase - works like a hot butter cutter!

Light throttle upshifts.

My DTT w/"towing" v. b. upshifts fairly abruptly under light throttle. In town it can be a slight nuisance. Fred Swanson who did the work says this is a challenge for performance transmission builders: holding power under moderate to high throttle settings while controlling violent upshifts under light throttle. The addition of the Pacbrake necessitates further adjustments. If I ever chuck the camper I'm going with DTT's "livestock' v. b. a less agressive v. b. I believe.

Does anyone know if the SK®48RE kit is for sale? Where to purchase this kit? I had a site that stated they would let me know when it is available but have not heard anything.

Anyone tried this kit yet with any feedback or settings recomended.

Thanks, Jeff

Scott,

Great. . I could swing by either before or after work to pick it up. I was hoping others may had used the kit to recommend springs or size recommendations for what modifications the kit may have. I had seen a post from someone that used a similar kit on a model 47 and recommended all springs and drill sizes that the kit had choices on.

Have you sold any other of these kits? Any feedback?

Thanks, Jeff
