I'm installing a trans tremp gauge and was wondering which line is the hot line for the fluid going to the cooler, back or front of transmission. I'm assuming this is a good location to put it. Everywhere else I looked was a little less accessable.

Also what is the size and type of this fitting to get the right adapter T fitting to put the sending unit in.

Can I expect a lot of fluid to come out or is most of it sitting in the pan when truck is shut off.

Another wierd thing is going on. I've noticed my trans dip stick will not seat "completely" and it is reading past full. Could this thing be too long? Any dimensions I can measure to see. I checked the other day when warm, not hot, and it was at least 3/4" above the full mark.

Thanks in advance. I've learned the TDR group is eager to help, pyro threads fixed #ad

Tim,

I just installed my trans. temp. gauge. I replaced my stock cooler line with a new one off a '95 - it has a port for the sender. It's the line on the front of the trans. If you have a flexible hose on the end of this line (going up into the heat exchanger), you can put a tee fitting in (1/2", I believe) and a new piece of trans. hose. You'll also need a 1/2" male to flare fitting, and a 1/2" male to 1/2" hose barb. I was planning on doing it that way until I found out the line on the '01s is metal all the way from the trans to the heat exchanger. So I had to replace the whole line - it was the easiest. It cost me $75. for the new line. If you go with a new line off a '95, you must remove the drainback valve on the new line (so you don't end up with two of them). Putting your sender in the line is the way to go - best place to get a reading.

As far as fluid, yes some comes out. I can't tell you how much because I had my pan off and replaced my filter and fluid at the same time I replaced the line. I also had to trim my dipstick - too long. This is common, from what I've heard. I also heard that checking your fluid level in drive is the best way to get it accurate.

Jannetty Racing sells a complete kit just for the Ram with all the fittings you need including the "Thermowell". Cost like 40 bucks for everything, they also show you how to install it. All you need is a tubing cutter.

Thanks for the info.

EMDDIESEL, do you happen to know the part number. They're closed i guess till Tuesday so I'll call then and order.

Thanks to both for the help. I was a bit irritated with the 5 star #ad
they told me a brass 3/8 inline tee would work so after I tore everything apart it was the wrong size and seeing the flared fittings made me wonder about the pressure. So I'll pay the bucks and get the Jannetty kit referenced above.

Oh well, another sat. am gone and no performance stuff yet #ad
! Emphasis on the yet!

There is no Part number for the kit, just call Jannetty (they dont list it on there site) and tell them you want the trans temp line kit and what year your truck is. I think it was like $43. 00 or something like that.

You can also use the factory line (#5011244AA0) with temp sensor bung... nice install, but pricey IMHO... ...
