Any body ever used a transmission adapter on their floor jack? If so how well do they work. Looked at one on northern tool but it looks tall.

I've changed out multiple 47re, NV4500 and G56's.

Never had a transmission jack. I just use wood, a ratchet strap and a normal floor jack. Well, a teenage son too!

I have done that to but this nv4500 at 200+ lbs and me working by my self is not going to be like a old 3 or 4 speed or automatic. Getting the truck high enough with a trans jack makes it even worse. I may have to try it with just the floor jack but would hate to get it on me.

You have changed yours to a G56. What all did you have to change and is it stronger than the 4500.

Working by myself I'd be more interested in a real trans jack...

My old truck was an automatic. Current truck is 2nd gen originally equipped with NV4500. Two replacement autos, two replaced NV4500 and I was sick of transmission swaps. Decided to go with G56, it had been out a while and had good reputation. NV5600 was already out of production when I did swap.

The G56 is stronger and the extra gear is great to help keep heavy loads moving up big hills. There are a number of threads about the NV4500 to G56 swap. After I did the swap GAmes did it too and wrote up a great how-to.

I bolted a piece of plate a foot wide 18 inches long to my floor jack. Straps and blocking to keep it from rolling off at a bad time ( is there a good one?) This was for a driveway swap with an auto and it worked fine. I'd suspect the manual would be easier in that you don't have to deal with hanging a TC on the shaft under the truck. I about popped a gut doing that.

I may try to do that and then I want have to jack the thing up in the sky to get it out from under the truck or build a saddle that fits the trans and fastens to my floor jack.

What kind of cost did you in up with it the 4500 to g56 swap. Sometimes I wish mind was a Automatic it would easier to back into campsites. I don't like riding the clutch but you start backing up hill with 9-10k its rough.

Basically, $2000 transmission, $1000 clutch/flywheel, $500 driveshaft. I think GAmes was more accurate/detailed in his thread.

Got my transmission at Harbor Freight about $100 worked great tilts front to back, side to side. Changed mine with no help.
