I did a search to see if I had already posted this and dont think I have.

There is a slam when my truck shifts into OD, I would call the slam severe. It will literally sound like something is going to gernade and stuff will fly off the dash. It dosent do it everytime, more like every third time it wont.

I've been working with a local person who is familar with the builders transmissions. Between him experiencing it and talking with the builder it has been decided that the slam is a result of the way my trans shifts into OD and the tripple disk converter. Apparently there are three different shift patterns with the 48RE.

I trust the word of both parties but dont believe that's just the way it is and cant be fixed. It seems I would have heard of others experiencing the same issues.

Any clues that could help us trouble shoot this?

TIA

Silverbullet, I too have a built 48RE from Goerend and I've experience the same thing you're talking about. I called Dave about this problem and he told me that there isn't enough fluid pressure to unlock the triple disc TC before it shifts to 4th. So basically it locks in third, shifts to 4th while locked and that's where you feel the slam. Unfortunately, I have to ease off the throttle when I feel it's going to shift in order to let the converter unlock for the shift to 4th. I got the slam so bad one time it felt like someone shot me in the back. Please keep me posted with any solutions to this. It's kind of annoying.

Dave makes a great transmission and He is right about the shifting, Their is a solution Please feel free to contact us... Dave is are builder for all of T&C transmission customers so we have much experience with his units, as we speak I am having him build my 2nd trans for my 03, I did the build in Dec of 02 With ATS parts when the Truck only had 250 miles, it now has 106K and is getting tried. I am more confident that Dave will build a better Unit than I could do.
