Was just over at a friends house trying to help him figure out what hes doing wrong with his new isspro trans temp gauge. Ive got basically the same gauge and hes got everything hooked up the same as i do except one thing. On the 2 sensor wires coming from his transducer, he extended those wires. Reason bieng the harness that plugs into the back of the gauge is so short (shorter than i remember mine being) so he either was going to have to cut and extend those wires or the 2 sensor wires coming from the transducer. By extending these wires has he messed with the resistance from the sensor? When he turns the key on, it goes right to 130 and will not move the rest of the time, no mattter how long he drives it. His 12 volt supply and dimmer lights are tied in with the rest of the gauges and they all work properly so i cant see it being anything else. Anybody have any experience with this? Thanks alot fellas,

JR

Sounds like he has wires swapped somewhere or a bad gauge. Should not be a problem to extend the wires. What gauge is it EV or EV2?

Its the ev series. We tried reversing the sensor wires even though that shouldnt make a difference and it didnt. The only other thing i havent messed with it those transducers that clamp around the trans line. Should the sensor bottom out in the transducer so the end of the sensor makes contact? My friend said it would not quite bottom out (with out fear of over tightening) i dont know if this matters? I dont think this is his issue because like i said soon as the key is turned on the gauge reads 130 and doesnt move.

I get its the EV series, but, which series? The EV II's are the latest ones with an electronic sensor and a stepper motor. No more control box in between. If you unhook the wires does the gauge drop or still go to the max?

sorry, its not the EV II its the older style with the box. I dont think hes unhooked the gauge yet im trying to find my info on my gauges i seem to remember something about touching the sensor wires together and it should do a full sweep. Is this what your referring to?r

It sounds more like a bad gauge to me or the wires are hooked up incorrectly from the box to the gauge. I have cut the wires on the sensor and spliced them together and it did not make a difference. The gauge will be controlled from the bax not the sensor so it should not matter how long the wires are. Are you sre the box is grounded good?

Ill have him double check the ground when i talk to him tomorrow it was daisy chained with the other gauges so i assumed it was fine but didnt check it for sure. As for the gauge there is a plug directly out of the gauge that plugs into the harness coming from the box. So not much we can do there unless like your saying its bad.

Just want to clarify theory of thermocouples:

Temperature is usually read with two dissimiliar metals joined together. Current will flow with heat applied to the joint. Now if you extend the wires and attach
new wire, be careful not to create another junction of of two dissimiliar metals.

I would call the manufacturer and ask if there is a special wire needed for extension.
