I am wondering it the light comes on will the fluid be smoked. After is cools take the truck in and get the fluid flushed and replaced.

My 03 manual states it comes on a 275 (measured in the pan), if need be I will pull over and cool down @ 225 (measured in the pan)

I have not seen over 195 yet but only pull 6K. I installed a switch so I can fool the ECM into thinking the engine needs more cooling just so I could take advantage of the vistronic fan drive for long backing events or slow pulling off road when added air flow over the trans cooler is welcome.

I have a 04. 5 3500 4x4, QC, SLT, 325/600, 3. 73 with 48RE. Don't know the light, but just had a transmission Temp guage installed, they said if the temp ever gets to 300 pull over and wait for it to cool down. It runs about 140 on the highway empty. Have not towed the trailer since gage was installed.

If you ever see 300 degree temps from your transmission, you should pull over and just call the tow truck because your transmission is probably dead anyway. The dummy light comes on around 275-280. By the time the dummy light comes on, you have already started doing damage to the transmssion.

I did a search and ran across this:

The approximate life expectancy at various temperatures is as follows:

175°F 100,000 miles

195°F 50,000 miles

212°F 25,000 miles

235°F 12,000 miles

255°F 6,250 miles

275°F 3,000 miles

295°F 1,500 miles

315°F 750 miles

335°F 325 miles

355°F 160 miles

375°F 80 miles

390°F 40 miles

415°F Less than 30 minutes

BStroecker, is correct it"s NOT how many miles, it is the temp that determines the life.

Is the chart you list for the Chrysler Fluid ATF +4? It looks to me that it is a just a mineral based fluid viscosity oxidation curve.
