I put in the guage sender in the front cooler line, and the question is, why am i seeing only 100 to 120 degrees during normal driving on the highway? I see higher temps if I am towing, but what should it be and what are the reasons?

When your torque converter is in lockup during normal driving you shouldn't see much heat as most of the heat is generated in the TC when in fluid coupling.

120-140 are pretty much normal temps when just driving unloaded on the highway with the converter locked up. I get nervous when my transmission temps get around 200 and do something about it at 220.

I saw mine hit 320 on my 97. I was in second gear crawling up a logging road with two sleds ontop, I went into 4 low and 3rd lockup and went down as fast as it came up.

That is pretty hot. Did the transmission suffer any damage? You are right in that if the transmission is slipping it is a heater and if you can keep it locked up it will generally stay cool inspite of the load you put on it.

No the trans was fine I was running +4 in it and it was only that hot for about 30 seconds while i put it in 4wd low. I changed the fluid anyways.
