After reading this thread I felt that I should add my experience. .
I was able to purchase a 5 gal pail of lube for the transmission in the GL4 spec in 100% synthetic oil from our local Castrol Dist.
I was also able to purchase a 5 gal pail of lube for the rear end in the GL5 spec in 100% synthetic oil from the same distributor...
He distributes the ATF - 4 oil for the transfer case but can't sell it to me as it's a private blended oil and can only be sold to DC dealers... . He has nothing on the shelf that will meet the specs of that private labeled oil..... until a few months ago he couldn't sell me the GL4 or GL5 either... ... He says it will be a while before he will have either the ATF - 4 for sale or something on the shelf in a different product that meets the same spec... .
They offer more than one brand of oil and I can't see where the ATF - 4 is available yet..... Since he only sells oil and I felt was honest with me, he mentioned that standard ATF doesn't hold up or offer the lubrication properties desired by DC... ... . I'd be carefull about what I put in my transfer case... .
I use a lube center for the engine but we check our own boxes and refill them ourselves... ... using the correct product... .
I'm guessing the lube center guys are either putting in the wrong fluid if they have to add... . or have had to go to DC to purchase the correct product.....
