Sasquatch! Sorry to get you folks up but I thought I would throw that in for fodder. NO NO I am not a GORE supporter! I agree with your posts. What gives the government the right to poke something down inside your fuel tank?? How about a big screen down prior to entering the tank, that should stop them!!

I would like to vote No because no matter who gets in Im going to get it in the end. I never have and never will benefit from those politicians. The first lier doesn't stand a chance. I have paid taxed into a lot of programs and the only one I am benefiting from is Social Security and guess what? Turn 65 and the medical insurance you had for 35 years says take a walk. They will insure you but will pay what Medicare doesn't pick up but will not pay a dime if Medicare does not cover it. Medicare picks up **** little. GOVERMENT IS SO SCREWED UP!!!

Now I am off of my soap box #ad

I would first of all like to disavow any assoc with larryB or Sasquatch; They are obviously (insert british accent) "hooligans"
Not that I am from britain instead South Louisiana, but it just seemed to fit. I feel so bad about any diesel that has slipped throught the tax net that I would like to send slick willie a check, personally.

Okay, here's my latest larcenous idea. With fuel prices skyrocketing, the Transfer Flow (or similar) fuel tank is beginning to make more sense to me. The stations closest to my home, here in Georgia, are selling fuel for about $1. 59, with some places selling it as high as $1. 80. 45 miles north of the city, stations are selling fuel in the range of $1. 45, and home heating out or "red fuel" can be purchased for $120, plus county tax.

The fine for running "red fuel" in anything over-the-road (not farm machinery) is now $10,000 in the state of Georgia. That's enough to give you pause, for sure... But, I'm wondering, why any cop would EVER think to look in a person's fuel tank. The DOT regularly checks (at weigh stations) truckers for fuel violations, I'm sure, but I can't imagine an instance in which you'd be checked, during a routine traffic violation stop (or, whatever).

A savings of . 50 cents a gallon on fuel costs (that's what it is NOW) would add up in a hurry -- $45 for each fill up of a Transfer Flow 90 gallon tank. I put about 20,000 miles per year on my truck. Figuring my average of 17 mpg, that'd represent a savings of about $600 per year. The tank would pay for itself during the first year.

Anybody else have similar "evil" thoughts?? :D :D
dear sasq,
it's illegal. don't try to rationalize. you're a responsible citizen, or you're not. you need to be watched to do the right thing, or you're a cheat. if you're going to cheat, do so. don't pretend that there's some great injustice going on that validates your dishonesty if decide to break the law to save some money. the "lines" here aren't blurry at all. it's illegal, and that's wrong.

Throwing that tea in Boston Harbor was "wrong" In some people eyes to but it sure must have been fun. Do you think we might go down in history also????????

Jponder,
That was goiing to be my next post! A little tea from Boston anyone?
If we opened the law books, we would find out that even babys are breaking some law, some where.
Just because something is illegal, does not mean it is wrong.

"it's an established fact that farm subsidies cost the government billions each year. "

I know, it was a slip of the keyboard - but subsidies don't cost the GOVERNMENT *ANYTHING!*

They cost the general society of our country PLENTY in TAXES! The government HAS no money, other than what the squeeze outta US! They have no money to GIVE anyone, until they steal it from someone ELSE in taxes to "redistribute" to those they have decreed "less fortunate", and in more need than those they steal the taxes FROM...

As far as revolutions go, Does ANYONE here (or elsewhere!) realize that OUR current freedoms and taxes are FAR more abused than they were in 1776? WE have FAR more grounds for revolution than our forefathers did in those earlier days - we're just to ignorant and apathetic to realize it, or DO anything substantial about it... yet...

I don't receive subsidies, nor do I like paying taxes, but don't you think it's a good idea to keep the American farmer in business so that if the day comes when the rest of the world decides to fix prices or lay an embargo on us that we still have a source of food?Don't think it can't happen, just look at oil. We've become much too dependent on imports and face it,the only thing the rest of the world likes about us is our money. I'm sure that a very large percent of our tax dollars earmarked for farm subsidies goes into the government's red tape pocket.

I'm all for revolution, this government has gotten out of hand. Voting for Bush or Gore won't change a bleeping thing. With the internet we have a chance. How about a campaign to refuse to pay Fedral income tax this coming year?I'm sure that a large percent of Americans will go for that, what will they do,throw us all in jail?So what if it forces the government to shut down, that's what we need. We need to send a strong signal that we're sick of this BS. I think keeping bucks in our pockets is better than wasteing tea in the ocean and the fat cats in DC will feel it much more. IMHO for . 02

fc101,

Can't fault your logic.

I guess I'm a would-be "cheat," and I'm ready to face St. Peter's list of my Earthly failings, knowing that I'll very likely be condemned to the fires of perdition 'cause I burned red diesel fuel in my Dodge pick up truck...

On the other hand, on the plus side of the ledger will be the fact that I didn't run to Canada when my draft board got a wild hair in '68. I managed not to ever "step out" on my wife of 28 years; didn't miss too many of my sons' football games, or my daughters' piano recitals, and still managed to work hard enough to finance private school educations and college degrees. My customers have always gotten a fair shake, and Uncle Sam has always gotten his pound of flesh each year on tax day.

Here's some more of my "rationalization. " Very nearly half of the "citizens" in this country who are eligible to vote next month will go to the polls and cast a vote, without having paid one red cent in federal income taxes during the prior year. They comprise a growing percentage of the population which our esteemed political class refer to as "the less fortunate. " Many of these folks are living off the federal dole, in one way or another. A growing percentage of "the working class" are rewarded each year by a payment from Washington called the "Earned Income Tax Credit," which is just welfare in another guise. I'm living in a $250,000 house and paying $5,000 in Atlanta/Fulton County property taxes each year -- $987 of which taxes go toward funding "Grady Memorial Hospital," which is an "indigent care" facility. Black folks circle the block leading to the hospital entrance where they receive free medications (including any and all prescriptions), free ob/gyn care (including pre/post natal and delivery), and free, comprehensive medical treatment.

Our presidential candidates have vowed (loudly) to continue to pay for, and even increase, home heating oil grants/subsidies for "po' folks," this winter. The quest for political power is achieved by auctioning the property of one (smaller) group of citizens in order to curry favor with another (larger) group of citizens. The political strategy is to continue to shift the burden of financing society's costs onto the backs of an ever-shrinking pool of hard working, productive tax payers -- get as many voters as possible off the roles of taxpaying citizens (federal income tax) and, in doing so, perpetuate themselves in office. We're almost at the point of "critical mass," where there are fewer taxpayers contributing to the system than there are "citizen-voters" making withdrawals from the treasury in the form of gubmint handouts, in one form or another.

Well, here's the thing: I know that I'm never going to be on the receiving end of one of Gorebert's "targeted tax-cuts. " Not in this lifetime. I work too hard, for starters, and am one of the 50% of the schmucks who pay the tab in April.

Therefore, I'm making a political statement, and I'm performing an act of "civil disobedience" (get a GRIP!, I'm kidding, here... ) by trying to figure out a way to burn red fuel in my Ram. Rationalization? Yeah, I guess. On the other hand, if I get caught, I'll be willing to pay my fine -- just like the host of other Ram owners who've "lost" their mufflers/cats, or tampered with their emissions sytems in some other way.

Finally, before you get too high and mighty, better run an inventory of your own personal shortcomings, good-buddy.

Meanwhile, sign me up for that "tea party. " #ad

FWIW, Handy Industries makes a combo fuel tank/tool box. Called the "fuel and tool", it sits within the bed of our trucks, has seperate draw and return lines, and the fuel filler neck is located inside of the tool box lid. Runs about $550 from Camping World. JC Whitney also has an electric switch solenoid that accomodates fuel systems with return lines, about $70.

sasquatch,I hope you haven't infered from my posts that you shouldn't use red,it's quite the opposite. The only time my rigs have seen clear is on long trips. After this long even if I'm fined I'll be ahead.

My idea-new fill tube in the bed. A piece of 1 1/2" capped pipe connected to the stock fill hose, filled with clear for drawing samples.

All the fuel lines and switches will do nothing for you if the DOT takes there fuel sample from the fuel filter/water seperater.
Pennslynvania fines you by the gallon you have on board. Troopers do check!

M1A2,
You say troopers will check, have you been checked? I keep hearing that they will check but have never heard from someone that was using the vehicle for personal use (no reason to pull through scales) that has been checked.
Thanks in advance.

M1A2,

Sorry, I don't buy it. I don't doubt that you've heard about state troopers taking fuel samples from fuel/water separators, but Puh-leeze...

On my truck, there'd be no way they could do that without a major production at roadside. I've got the "prime-loc" remote fuel filter locator, a BD-Exhaust Brake on top of it, and so much other crap bolted on that it'd take somebody very familiar with the truck to even FIND the filter in the first place. I can't feature some trooper pulling me over for speeding, seeing my diamond plate toolbox in the rear of the truck, and thinking... "I'm going to remove my white, trooper-style gloves and crawl into this guy's engine compartment with my toolkit, for a fuel sample!"

On my truck (if you can find the filter at all) it's impossible to take a sample from it. When I replace filters, I have to (with great difficulty) fish a clear, 3/4", plastic hose up from the bottom of the truck, through a maze of vacuum hoses and electrical loom, to the bottom of the filter canister. I have pre-attached (with duct tape) an old, one-gallon, windshield-washer fluid bottle to the end of the hose. Fishing the line is NOT an easy task (I can feature this happening with traffic whizzing by, the trooper's butt sticking up in the air... ). Then, and only then, can I drain the fuel filter by pushing up on the end of the hose. There is NO WAY that anyone could put some sort of collection device under the fuel filter and obtain an uncontaminated sample in this way. Not going to happen...

Finally, the point I made earlier is key. If you have separate tanks, and can switch, with ease between them, it would be no trouble to simply run "legit fuel" during those times of "highest exposure" for you. In other words, you could run the "red" when you're tooling around, locally, obeying the traffic laws, and being a solid, law-abiding citizen (except for that engine "mod," EPA-emissions tampering you did... ); then, when you're on the interstate, driving along like a bat out o' **** , you switch tanks and burn the legal fuel. How long does it take, going 80 mph. , for the red fuel to cycle through the fuel system, and the filter to be purged of any "evidence?" Not long, I suspect...

Ultimately, if we get stopped for a traffic violation, most of us would be up for a serious reaming, anyway, if the state trooper turns out to be "Sam Memmolo's" (TDR "Celebrity Corner") State Trooper/Diesel Mechanic brother. I know that I could be cited for a half dozen "violations" of one "tree-hugging" statute or another. Have any of you "lost" your catalytic converter. ? I had such a mishap many moons ago...

I guess I'm getting philosophical and fatalistic about this stuff in my old age. I feel like, "when my number's up, it's up," and if I take intelligent precautions, (right model tank, right means of hookup) chances are VERY good that I'll be okay.

A final thought on an earlier topic ("doing the right thing"). In my neck of the woods, you can now "break the law" by trimming a tree in your yard, or mixing your garbage in "unapproved" containers. You can (and WILL) be fined (fail to pay the fine -- you'll be arrested) for putting yard trimmings in a plastic leaf bag (WAS the requirement, last year), instead of a NEWLY "authorized," paper bag (which, naturally, melts/disintegrates when it rains... ).

This is no longer a nation of laws "of, by, and for" the people. We've become, instead, a nation administered by tens of thousands of clueless, idiotic, pestilential, un-elected, busybody, bureaucrats who sit around on folding chairs in damp Washington, D. C. basements, writing ridiculous statutes designed to complicate and make our lives miserable.

If you undertake a remodel of your home, without a building permit, you've broken the law. In Atlanta, this ordinance extends to replacing a faulty outlet, or rehanging a front door. You need a permit AND an inspection if the cost of the work will exceed $40. It's against the law to cut down a tree on your property without a permit from (and an inspection by) the "City Arborist. "

The list of laws, rules, statutes, codes, and ordinances that rule our lives is endless and virtually impossible not to transgress, no matter how well-intentioned and saint like you live your life. And, my bet is that it's going to get worse before it gets better.

I'm gettin' a tank and burnin' red. (Extra rationalizations upon request... ) #ad

As far as refusing to pay taxes, I had a builder that got into that situation and I say him on TV (town hall) and he said "you do not have to pay taxes, but they take your car, house, bank account etc etc.

Here in Oregon there is an initive on the ballot to keep the Gov from taking your property prior to being convicted of a crime.

I vote on all issues limiting the power of the so called government. Government for the people and by the people is ok, but gov for gov sake is NOT. HEY why should bills be introduced and passed that have riders? One bill, one subject, not special interest riders.
Why pay for the people that do not care or desire to work but enjoy taking the freebies. I know do unto others before they do unto you, sorry as you would have them do unto you.

Deezel Dog,

WoW! $550 for the "fuel and tool?" Sounds too good to be true! The tank reviewed by Rob Spading (American Toolbox Co. -- Frisco, TX) is over $1,500. 00! And, that's BEFORE it's shipped (insured) to your site.

The Farmer and Rancher is the only person that sells below wholesale and buys everything at retail. Yes I am a Farmer and Rancher.

Here in Texas we or anyone can get what is called a Pre-Paid Diesel Users Permit. You just have to tell them it is going to be used some for off road. What this does is let you pre-pay the State Tax. About . 20 per gal. Permit cost 145. 00 a year and if you figure it that is about 6000 miles a year worth of driving a year, then it is payed for. Only problem is you have to get your fuel at a bulk station or have a storage tank at the house. The fuel is clear or green not red. The State knows we are going to get and use red fuel when we can. So I guess they think 145. 00 a year is better than nothing. It also makes us feel a little better about obeying the law and being legal. With the red fuel we not only get the state sales tax off,but the federal tax also. So if you are running red on the road it also a federal offense.
