You don't say what you need the Transgo kit for. Towing, racing, or what?

Do you have any auto transmission experience?

If you are towing, have you upgraded the torque convertor?

I would not try to install one myself. I don't have that much knowledge about auto transmissions.

If you need to upgrade for towing purposes, I would consider a professionally modified valve body from any one of the outstanding vendors listed in TDR or mentioned here on the forum.

Just replacing the valve body is not much of an ordeal but installing a Transgo kit involves modifications to it.

I know that there is a big difference in price between a vendor modified valve body and the Transgo kit but I think, in the long run, it would be worth it.

I have in the past installed Trans go and B&M shift kits. They are OK for cars and maybe 1500 series trucks, but I would not think they would work well on a diesel. I have not found a person with a automatic/diesel that had a problem with the shifting of their transmission. The problem always seems to be it's ability to hold the power and not slip,Mainly torque converter related. The kits you described work to firm up shifts, by making the shift faster and reducing the buffer that is built-in which makes the transmission smooth. It worked well for hot street cars that liked to bark the tires when shifting, but I think it would hurt a full sized truck with a diesel, and it would not work towing at all. This is just my thoughts, if you do decide to install the kit please post back with your findings. I would be very interested to know how it turned out, Good Luck.

I installed a Transgo kit in my transmission once. I had a few questions to ask them. I e-mailed them and when they responded they were no help at all. They suggested that I call them. When they found out that I'm too deaf to use a phone that was the end of any communications with them.

Then I found out the hard way that the kit had a bad part. This resulted in trashing my transmission. The good of all this was that I learned how to overhaul my transmission and I got some help from Bill K.

Do business with Transgo at your own risk.

I have a TransGo in my truck. If I were to do it again, I'd get a replacement VB from any of the aftermarket dealers. They come tested and are as close to a "bolt in" as you can get. In the end, you'll spend less with the replacement unit than the kit (with all of the time spend getting it to shift correctly).

I agree w/ Joe.

I deal with Dacco/Detroit when getting transmission parts. Last time I asked about a specific kit, they stated that many shops have started using a different kit than Transgo.

I can't remember the name of who makes this other kit, but if you want I can try and find it.

If you have a specific problem you are trying to cure check with

http://www.sonnax.com/

They have a lot of nice stuff - but it is directed more towards transmission rebuilders.

Good luck!

I have nothing good to say about transgo, I've had one in my truck and i did nothing it said it would, im now going to spend the money and buy one that is build by some one who know exactly how to make it do what I want it to.

dissenting opinion

I used to own a Transmission Repair Shop a few years back. I teach Auto Trans at my College. I've used quite a few Trans-go kits without troubles. I admit I've never used a kit on a Diesel because, as stated earlier by y-not, Deisel typically shift well. If I did use a trans kit on one I would only install the lube improvements and anything that increased Line pressure and leave the shift feel alone. I doubt many do-it-yourselfers feel comfortable experimenting with their valve bodies, especially with the high cost of failures, so you might be best off going with a valve body from a reputable source.

there's also another kit you may want to call them on: http://www.superior-transmission.com/

if set up properly, they can work good, however transgo doesn't have good customer service as stated above. too soft of shifts are bad for the clutch packs. too hard of shifts are bad for the rear end. plus if you get the shifts to be more firm on the stock converter, then add the aftermarket converter, the shifts will probably become way too harsh. i'm sure you could snap a stock shaft towing if you add the aftermarket converter. if you're clutch packs aren't slipping, but your lock up clutch is, then the kit will hlp/cure that problem depending on the severty of the clutch surface.

Thanx for the replys, the only reason I was interested in the transgo kit It is supposed to double lockup capacity, soft shifts, reduces drain back,in real cold weather and I have not drove my truck in a while it has to warm up a little. I don't think this kit is a fast lock up to bark the tires it is for diesel and v 10 dodges. marlon
