I have 20,000 miles on my truck and probably around 25 or 30 i will be doing my transmission fluid change. What i want to know is, can i drill a hole in the pan slowly or so to drain the pan. Reason why is i want to be able to install the drain plug so i can mount the sensor for my gauge without pulling the pan off. Is this a bad idea because of possibly getting metal shavings in the pan or can i do it. Even better is what will be the simplest way. Can i drill the hole in the pan and then pull the pan off or do i have to pull the pan off first. Any help or other suggestions would be great guys. Thanks.

You can drill the hole first, then pull the pan and install a drain.

Genos garage sells just the thing you are looking ofr!

Thats where i bought all my stuff. I just wanted to see if it was safe to drill the hole first then pull the pan off. I guess its kind of obvious. If any metal does get in there it will just sit at the bottom or flow out with the transmission fluid(I hope).

Now i'm sure i already know the answer to this but i'm gonna play it safe. The gasket is reusable right. I'm sure it is but i'm just going to make sure.

You have to have the pan off to install a drain plug. You have to have the pan off to change the filter.

Drill a small hole where the plug is to go. Drain the oil then pull the pan off. Less mess with the oil already drained. With the pan off drill a bigger hole for the plug.

Its an automatic and so pretty much what everyone is saying is that it is ok to drill the hole and then take the pan off when its done draining.
