I am getting ready to move the heat exchanger to another location to make room for twin turbos. I've heard you should flush it with a cleaner before reinstalling it. Does anyone know what to use to flush it with?
If it's not contaminated, I don't understand the need to clean it. However, cleaning it won't hurt anything. I would use your choice of solvent backwards and forwards followed by ATF to remove any remaining solvent.
I got a product from my trans builder and you can get it from most autoparts stores... . it's called Kooler Kleen and it is not solvent based so if there is some left in the cooler it won't hurt anything. It worked great and got all the old fluid and some crud that i had out... . mine wasn't bad but I wanted to flush it to be safe with the new trans.
I dont care what anyone says if you have metal in your trans cooling system you CANNOT clean it out. Now that being said if you want to flush out crud or old fluid yes the flush stuff works a little but not completely Especially on coolers. They have flat fins just like a radiator and you simply can't get all the crap out of them.
