I have a 2010 2500 4x4 with Automatic transmission.
I installed a Mag-Hytec pan on the transmission at the first transmission fluid change (@25,000 Miles)
I first noticed a small group of transmission fluid drops on the floor of my garage at @ 32,000 miles.
After crawling under the truck, I was able to locate the source of the leak.
It seems that the seal around the shift selector lever and shaft had backed out of the transmission housing and was letting transmission fluid leak down the pan and onto the ground.
Since the truck was still under warranty, I took the truck back to where I purchased the vehicle, Westpointe Dodge in Yukon Oklahoma.
Later that day, I got a phone call from the service manager saying that “The leak is coming from your aftermarket Transmission pan”.
I tried to tell him that I had already found the source of the leak, and that you can plainly see the black seal protruding out of the transmission housing and resting on the shift selector shaft.
He said that he personally looked, and saw nothing like the condition described.
At this point I was a bit steamed…I had already identified the problem, and even had the part number and cost for a replacement seal!
I went to pick up the truck, and on the way home, stopped at another Dodge dealer and bought the part for a Whopping $3. 50.
Replacing the seal took me all of 15-20 Min!
I researched this particular problem, and found that it is quite common. .
It seems that the manufacturer used a tool with a diamond tip to bore the seal seat.
This gave a surface finish that was extremely smooth. So smooth that the seal has nothing to get a bite on, and after time will back out of the seat.
The replacement seal is Mopar part number 04799346, but you may reuse your old seal if it's not chewed up.
Here is what I saw. . that the dealer and service manager couldn't see even after being told where to look:
After Pictures showing the new seal properly seated to operating depth:
