I have a 2010 2500 4x4 with Automatic transmission.
I installed a Mag-Hytec pan on the transmission at the first transmission fluid change (@25,000 Miles)
I first noticed a small group of transmission fluid drops on the floor of my garage at @ 32,000 miles.
After crawling under the truck, I was able to locate the source of the leak.
It seems that the seal around the shift selector lever and shaft had backed out of the transmission housing and was letting transmission fluid leak down the pan and onto the ground.
Since the truck was still under warranty, I took the truck back to where I purchased the vehicle, Westpointe Dodge in Yukon Oklahoma.
Later that day, I got a phone call from the service manager saying that “The leak is coming from your aftermarket Transmission pan”.
I tried to tell him that I had already found the source of the leak, and that you can plainly see the black seal protruding out of the transmission housing and resting on the shift selector shaft.
He said that he personally looked, and saw nothing like the condition described.
At this point I was a bit steamed…I had already identified the problem, and even had the part number and cost for a replacement seal!
I went to pick up the truck, and on the way home, stopped at another Dodge dealer and bought the part for a Whopping $3. 50.
Replacing the seal took me all of 15-20 Min!
I researched this particular problem, and found that it is quite common. .
It seems that the manufacturer used a tool with a diamond tip to bore the seal seat.
This gave a surface finish that was extremely smooth. So smooth that the seal has nothing to get a bite on, and after time will back out of the seat.
The replacement seal is Mopar part number 04799346, but you may reuse your old seal if it's not chewed up.

Here is what I saw. . that the dealer and service manager couldn't see even after being told where to look:

I feel you're pain, every time I took my 09 in, it was some reason they couldn't find/fix my issues. In a few cases it was the same, here is the problem... what they need to do... week later.

That seal popping out is a known issue, but for whatever reason corporate has not come up with an official repair

You should send these pictures to the dealer service manager, CC'd to the Dodge customer service office.

I sent the pictures and an e-mail to:
The sevice manager
The service write up man
The General Manager of the dealership...

Want to know what I got back????
SQUAT!

Not a single reply.....

I wanted to send it to the regional service manager... but couldn't find who that was or what their e-mail address was.

They could be trying to concoct a reply where no one did anything wrong and no one is at fault. To quote the departed SOS, "What difference does it make?"

Well... .

Considering I sent the email to them on 12/31/12... . I'm not hopeful they are still mulling over a responce...

Response or no... at least the people involved have had their peepee slapped and you can bet they feel pretty crummy. Especially since they are getting bad local press.

OK...I know this is an old thread, but I went to get yet another seal, and I was told it has been superseded by a kit that now also has a retainer for the seal.

The new part number for this "Kit" is 68235551AA

It costs only 11.75 Plus tax at the stealership and I was told it contains a redesigned seal, a retainer, and Instructions on how to install it.

Now I don't mind crawling under my truck to fix things, but when the same darned thing keeps happening, and I'm told that my transmission pan is leaking, my heads just about explodes!!

I hope this information helps people out who are having this same issue!

LarryQ I got the "kit" 68235551AA, but I did not get the instructions. How is the retainer supposed to be installed? Could you post/ send me a copy if you still have them? Thanks for the info!

Thanks Bob, so the retainer is not driven in, it is loose? I am just thinking ahead, about how I would get the retainer out if/when the new seal starts leaking again.

Yup,there is a miller tool to install the seal with but isn’t really needed and the spacer/retainer goes in easy as well
