Have meant to ask this question for some time but haven't. Truck is a 2018 3500 dually 4WD Aisin with all of 33k on it now. I took delivery of the truck in May, 2018. In Sept, 2018 when the truck had 1,801 miles I crawled under the truck and noticed a white powder on the vertical sides of the transmission. Was at the dealer for another issue and asked about the powder. I was told it was there for leak detection. Have never had a leak. Transmission seems to work OK.
This is something I haven't seen before and makes one wonder about why the powder really is there. Maybe it is on all of them?

Is this something that is common on Aisin transmissions??
Anyone seen this before?

Back before UV dye, for oil leaks, we’d clean the area and throw some baby powder on it. Worked pretty good.

I have some Diatomaceous Earth (DE) in a spice bottle to put on area that may be leaking. Same as baby powder. The baby powder makes me break out sneezing! Spray down with brake cleaner and then apply a powder of choice, look for tracking. Just another tool for the toolbox! Goes back to the days of driving on dirt roads, you could tell where the leaks were and would act as a band-aid at times!
